Our Three Predictions for Millwall vs Middlesbrough
- First Prediction: Millwall to win – 6/5
- Second Prediction: Both teams to score – 17/20
- Third Prediction: Morgan Whittaker to score at any time – 41/10

First Prediction for Millwall vs Middlesbrough – Millwall to win – 6/5
Although both teams won on the opening day, it was only the hosts that progressed through to the second round of the Carabao Cup after beating Newport County, whilst Middlesbrough slumped to an embarrassing 4-0 defeat against a much-changed League One side in Doncaster Rovers. On top of this, Millwall’s two wins this season have come on the road, a feat they only accomplished six times in the Championship last season. The Lions were only beaten in seven league games at home last season, whilst their opponents lost 12 times on their travels. Middlesbrough are also under new boss, Rob Edwards, who has had a frustrating first window as manager at the Riverside, and although they managed to pick up three crucial points against Swansea City, the loss midweek, mixed with the fact that their home form is usually better than their away form, means that they could struggle against Alex Neil’s strong Millwall side, who are on home turf and haven’t lost in their last six games in all competitions. On the contrary, Boro have only won once in their seven games, in comparison to their hosts.
Second Prediction for Millwall vs Middlesbrough – Both teams to score – 17/20
Although the away side have been poor in recent weeks, they have managed to find the back of the net in all but two matches across their last seven games in pre-season, the Championship and the Carabao Cup. They failed to score on Tuesday, but crucially opened up their Championship account on the opening day, thanks to a goal from centre-back Dael Fry. Millwall have an even better record than Boro, scoring three goals during the season so far and a whopping 18 goals across six pre-season games. However, whilst both sides have proved that they can find the back of the net, they have also struggled somewhat with keeping them out, the hosts conceding four goals across pre-season and once in the league so far, whilst the away side have conceded 14 goals in their last seven games, four of which came midweek against Doncaster after keeping a clean sheet against the Swans. The fact that these sides have proved that they can find the back of the net, mixed with the fact that the opening games of the season aren’t going to show the defensive stability that we will see later down the line, means this match could be a high-scoring affair.
Third Prediction for Millwall vs Middlesbrough – Morgan Whittaker to score at any time – 41/10
Since his move from Plymouth Argyle, Whittaker hasn’t quite hit the highs Middlesbrough and their fans would’ve hoped. In his last two seasons at Argyle, in the Championship, the winger netted 22 goals and provided a further nine assists, but since moving North, the 24-year-old has registered just two assists and no goals in 18 appearances. Manager Edwards and Boro fans will be hoping this season he can prove why the club spent big money and beat off multiple opponents to his signature. Whittaker has started this season well, providing the assist against Swansea after hitting the bar in the first half. Although he’s not lived up to expectations so far, Whittaker will be looking to finally open his Boro account, and with confidence on his side after grabbing an assist against Welsh outfit Swansea, there will be no better time to score.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head
As mentioned above, the hosts have started their campaign better than their opponents. Millwall won away at Norwich City for the first time since 2014 on the opening day of the season, and then beat League Two side Newport County 1-0 away at Rodney Parade with a rotated starting 11. Although Boro also won their opening day fixture, 1-0 at home against Swansea, they suffered a shock 4-0 loss at home to League One side Doncaster, who made 11 changes from the side that played Mansfield Town midweek.
Both sides will be looking to push further into the promotion race this season, with Millwall finishing two points outside the play-offs and their opponents finishing four points off the play-offs last season. Whilst the away side are under new management completely, with Rob Edwards at the helm, the hosts are entering their first full season under the guidance of Alex Neil.
Since 2010, these sides have met 27 times, with all but one of those matches coming in the second tier. Middlesbrough edge Millwall out in terms of wins, the away side winning 11 of the 27 ties, whilst Millwall have won 10. The other six matches have ended level at full-time. The last time these sides met, Millwall took the three points, winning at the Den thanks to a singular goal from Camiel Neghli on the hour mark.
