Boston United Announce Capture Of Travelled EFL Forward

Boston United have completed the signing of striker Jordy Hiwula following a successful trial spell.

The 30-year-old had been a free agent since leaving Morecambe at the end of the 2023–24 season and will now link up with the National League club for the new campaign.

From Manchester City to Lower-League Impact

Hiwula’s football journey began with Fletcher Moss Rangers before joining Manchester City’s youth system. After a serious ligament injury disrupted his 2012–13 season, he responded with 20 goals in 31 games for City’s Under-21s in 2013–14, earning a contract extension until 2016.

His senior breakthrough came via a loan move to Yeovil Town in 2014, where he scored once in nine appearances. A switch to Walsall in early 2015 proved more productive, with goals in both his first home and away matches, and an appearance in the Football League Trophy final at Wembley. He finished that campaign with 10 goals.

Huddersfield Deal and Loan Journeys

Huddersfield Town signed Hiwula in July 2015, but he made only limited appearances before embarking on a series of loan spells. These included Wigan Athletic, a return to Walsall, and season-long stays at Bradford City and Fleetwood Town.

His time at Fleetwood brought a goal in the EFL Cup against Carlisle United, underlining his ability to adapt quickly to new surroundings.

Coventry Success and Later Moves

In August 2018, Hiwula joined Coventry City, where he enjoyed the most prolific season of his career. He scored 12 goals in 39 league appearances in 2018–19, also finding the net in the EFL Trophy against Forest Green Rovers.
Following his Coventry spell, Hiwula signed for Portsmouth in October 2020, scoring in a 6–1 FA Cup win over King’s Lynn Town before extending his stay to the end of the season. He then moved to Doncaster Rovers in July 2021.

A switch to Scottish Premiership side Ross County came in June 2022, where he scored four goals in 27 appearances before being released in September 2023. He returned to England with Morecambe in February 2024, signing a short-term deal.

Now 30, Hiwula joins Boston United looking to add experience and goals to their National League push. His career has taken him across the EFL and beyond, providing a wealth of knowledge to draw upon in Lincolnshire.

Writer’s View

This is a smart piece of business by Boston United. Hiwula brings proven EFL pedigree, pace in behind, and an instinct for important goals. While his career has been nomadic, his record at Coventry shows he can deliver consistently when given regular minutes.

For a side targeting a strong National League campaign, his blend of experience and attacking instinct could prove decisive.
