Bradford City will continue their promising season-beginning with a visit from Luton Town this Saturday. The Hatters have been relegated in back-to-back campaigns following their historic 2023/24 Premier League season. Bradford are looking to remain in the division, with a further aspiration of a play-off picture looking possible considering their assembled squad this summer.
Luton themselves look ready for a title charge, with their minimum expectations being a promotion push. The level of quality the League One favourites have at their disposal is imperious in the third tier. A surprising amount of players who featured in the top flight for Luton remain important members of the squad ahead of their make or break season.

First Prediction for Bradford City vs Luton Town – Match result – Draw 11/5
With these two sides ‘meeting in the middle’ following a promotion and relegation arrival in the third tier between them, Bradford will look to upset Luton as the home team. The Bantams are difficult to break down at the University of Bradford Stadium, especially under Graham Alexander. Having beaten Fleetwood Town, Middlesbrough and Wycombe Wanderers in friendly games as well as their third tier opener, Bradford have proven this to be true so far.
Luton face uncertainty at the moment, in regards to their best lineup. The Bantams could be facing Town at the best possible time in their season. However, the Hatters have undoubted quality and player calibre at this level. Away from home this season, an EFL Cup tie saw a narrow loss to Coventry cancel out a dominant performance at Peterborough United, winning 2-0 in the latter.
With both sides impressing early on, and the balance of Luton’s assets with Bradford’s home form and squad resilience, a likely bet could be hedged on this affair ending even.
Second Prediction for Bradford City vs Luton Town – Stephen Humphrys to score 61/20
Humphrys has already shown signs of a high-reward purchase for Bradford, arriving in the summer from fellow League One outfit, Barnsley. The 27-year-old has yet to score for his new Bantams suitor, but – despite being known primarily as a striker – flourished as a left-winger at the end of last season with Barnsley. Scoring five goals in the last six matches of the league campaign left fans of the Yorkshire outfit perplexed over his decision to jump ship.
Alexander had been utilising the important attacker as a left-sided option of a narrow front three system, allowing the former Wigan Athletic man to sit behind Bobby Pointon and form a lethal partnership with Antoni Sarcevic. The former Salford City boss has seemingly had a chnage of heart, which could benefit this bet’s outcome. The likelihood is that, this role will change now and as a centre-forward Humphrys will be able to recoup some of that form found in the latter end of a spell with Barnsley and thrive as an attacking outlet in the league. With Pointon’s contract renewal recently boosting team morale, the pair could continue to link up in shared goal contributions.
Third Prediction for Bradford City vs Luton Town – Both teams to score – Yes 4/5
On paper, neither of these teams should score, considering their real strength being exemplified in both defences. Luton, despite being relegated miserably last season, boast a side with real steel at the back. Bradford, with new signings Curtis Tilt, Joe Wright and Matthew Pennington, also look exceptionally solid, keeping an important clean sheet against Northampton Town.
Despite that, Luton’s attack will be nothing like what Bradford have faced so far this season. As aforementioned, the side hasn’t fully gelled yet, but this game could be the one where something begins to click between the likes of: Nakhi Wells, Millenic Alli, Jerry Yates and Cauley Woodrow – who is currently being linked with a Championship upgrade. The Hatters should score at least one goal and anything less would be deemed as a huge failure this upcoming weekend by Matt Bloomfield.
The former Wycombe Wanderers coach should be warned by the threat of Pointon, Sarcevic and Humphrys though. The three’s interchangeable attacking patterns will potentially unsettle the Luton defenders as a three-on-three can easily turn into a five-on-three if Alexander utilises his flying wing-backs perfectly. Ibou Touray and Josh Neufville have both come in this summer to complete an entirely ‘new-look’ defence. With license to roam forward, the Hatters could be expected to miss out on a third clean sheet of the campaign.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-to-Head
An impressive start to both clubs’ seasons got underway results-wise from the offset. Luton opened the League One campaign with a 1-0 victory over AFC Wimbledon on 1st August. The Hatters looked out of ideas for the most part against the tenacious, newly-promoted side – which could be their downfall against Bradford. However, through an 85th-minute own goal, Luton claimed all three points before visiting Posh the following weekend and running out as 2-0 victors.
The Bantams have entered round two of the EFL Cup due to their performance on Tuesday night, unlike Bloomfield’s side who lost 1-0 against Coventry. A 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers saw a heavily-rotated lineup dismantle an equally-changed Championship outfit, with two goals coming within the opening four minutes of the game. As for their League One campaign, a 0-0 draw will not dishearten Alexander’s team as an opening day victory over Wycombe instilled confidence into the squad.
In terms of head-to-head meetings, Luton have prevailed on both occasions in recent memory. With very few recent recordings of the two playing each other in professional outings, a narrow March 2019 victory for the Hatters saw Jack Stacey’s strike make the difference as the Norwich City defender donned the number seven shirt. In their earlier League One meeting that season, Elliot Lee fired two goals in to spearhead a 4-0 Luton win.
