Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:
New Bristol City manager Gerhard Struber took charge of his first competitive match with the Robins on Saturday. Struber’s side produced one of the results of the weekend as they beat Sheffield United 4-1 at Bramall Lane.
Bristol City were losing playoff semi finalists last season but lost manager Liam Manning to Norwich City in the summer. Struber has strengthened his squad with the likes of goalkeeper Radek Vitek, striker Emil Riis Jakobsen and midfielder Adam Randell.
MK Dons opened their campaign with a 0-0 home draw against newly promoted Oldham Athletic. The stalemate at Stadium MK was a disappointing start to the new season after a dismal season last term when they finished 19th in League Two. Paul Warne’s side followed up that opening day draw with a victory away at Barrow thanks to goals from Alex Gilbey and Callum Paterson.
Warne has strengthened his squad over the summer with the acquisitions of Aaron Collins, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Callum Paterson.
Bristol City and MK Dons have met competitively six times since 2013, with Bristol City winning two of those encounters and the sides playing out draws on four occasions. The last league meetings came in the Championship during the 2015-16 campaign, with Bristol City claiming four points from those matches.
The meeting at Ashton Gate in October 2015 saw Ivory Coast international Jonathan Kodija open the scoring for the hosts after just six minutes, a goal that looked to have been enough to secure the three points. That was until Daniel Powell struck an equaliser for MK Dons in the 90th minute to take a point back to Buckinghamshire. The return fixture in February 2016 produced a victory for the Robins thanks to a Kodija brace as the striker continued the fine form that saw him score 19 league goals during that season.
Bristol City and MK Dons enjoyed a fantastic season during the 2014-15 season, as both overcame challenges from the likes of Sheffield United and Preston North End to claim the top two spots in League One, with the former taking the title. As the sides battled it out for promotion, the contests were unsurprisingly tight but it was Bristol City who came out on top as they again took four points from Milton Keynes.
In the first encounter between the pair that season, the Robins edged a five goal affair thanks to a brace from Kieran Agard and a Wade Elliott strike after MK Dons had clawed their way back from two goals down to draw level with goals from Dean Bowditch and Benik Afobe. In the reverse fixture, neither side could break the deadlock as the match ended 0-0 and the season would end with Bristol City claiming the title by eight points.
Three of the fixtures have produced four or more goals whilst the other three have seen less than 2.5 goals.
