‘He’s A Top Player’- Bolton Wanderers Boss Assesses New Addition

Bolton Wanderers manager Steven Schumacher has given his early assessment of summer signing Ethan Erhahon, as reported by The Bolton News.

Schumacher is full of praise for the midfielder.

Erhahon Will Make His Mark

Bolton won the race for Erhahon’s signature two weeks ago, agreeing a deal with Lincoln City for one of their prized assets.

The new man had to make do with a place on the bench for Wanderers’ opening league fixture away at Stockport County, making his debut in a cameo role towards the end of the 2-0 defeat.

Despite limited minutes on the pitch, Schumacher is delighted with the acquisition:

First of all, he is a top player. We have been really impressed with him in training.”

“He adds physicality to us. He’s big, good size. He understands the game. For someone who is quite young, he is experienced.”

With no competitive fixture between Stockport and today’s clash with Plymouth Argyle, Erhahon was selected for a B Team match at Liverpool on Tuesday night.

Schumacher believes it was a worthwhile exercise as the former St Mirren man continues to familiarise himself with his new club.

“He has got a lovely left foot, he picks up good passes and it was good for him to get minutes on Tuesday at Liverpool because he gets to play in the system that we are trying to play.”

“He gets to play alongside players who he is going to be playing with – i.e. Thierry [Gale], Jordi [Osei-Tutu] and Sam Inwood just behind him.”

He will feel the benefit of that. He has not played loads of minutes in pre-season. He hasn’t played for a while so just trying to get him up to speed will be the key.”

Having fought off reported Championship interest for Erhahon, the former Plymouth Argyle boss is confident his signing will make an impact.

“But he is certainly going to be a good player for us. I have been really impressed with his character as well, he seems a really popular member of the squad.”

Writer’s View

Ethan Erhahon is one of those players who conduct the majority of their business under the radar and their value to the team is often only highlighted when they are absent.

Once settled in the Bolton side, he will thrive and will be an important cog in Schumacher’s wheel as he looks to drive the club towards promotion.
