Leyton Orient Sign Promising Queens Park Rangers Attacker On Loan

Last season, Leyton Orient’s success was underpinned by two young attacking loanees who thrived at Brisbane Road, Jamie Donley and Charlie Kelman. Whilst the O’s were never going to be able to completely replace the duo, they have just signed another young attacker on loan, who has the potential to get 20 combined goals and assists.

Queens Park Rangers Prospect Makes Crosstown Switch

Leyton Orient have announced the signing of Queens Park Rangers attacker Alife Lloyd on a season-long loan via their official media channels.

The 22-year-old came through the academy of Yeovil Town, making one league appearance for the Glovers before being signed by Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

Following a season in the R’s youth team, Lloyd spent the majority of the 2022/23 National League season on loan at Eastleigh, where he scored five times in 23 games.

Unfortunately, injuries led to the striker, who can also play on the left wing, missing the entirety of the 2023/24 season, but he bounced back last year.

The Englishman broke into the R’s first team, making 31 appearances for Marti Cifuentes’ side, starting four times in the league and scoring two goals for the West London-based team.

Upon joining Orient, Lloyd said:

“I’m really excited to be here. The manager sold the club and his style to me straight away and I can’t wait to get started once I’m back fit.

“I spoke to Paul Smyth and Charlie Kelman about the club as well, and they only had positive things to say. The club obviously had a really strong season last year and I want to come in and help us to achieve again this season.”

Richie Wellens was also excited about the prospect of the attacker joining his team.

“Alfie has all of the attributes needed to be a great striker and I’m really pleased that we’ve got him.” The 45-year-old told club media. “He was one of our main forward targets this summer.

“He’s incredibly hard working, will give his all for the team and can lead our press from the front. With this loan – and the more consistent football and game time that he’ll get once he’s back – we’re looking forward to seeing him scoring goals and improving as a player.”

The Yeovil-born man picked up an injury during his first training session with the O’s, but he is expected to be back to full fitness in the coming weeks.

Writer’s View

Whilst it is disappointing that Lloyd has picked up an injury, he could prove to be an excellent signing for Leyton Orient.

He has an excellent work ethic, a great mentality and experience at a higher level.

It is important that he is not rushed back to fitness, as this could cause his performance levels to fall.
