Peterborough United have turned their attention to Accrington Stanley midfielder Ben Woods as they continue their aggressive summer recruitment drive.
The 22-year-old has emerged as a priority target for Darren Ferguson following a strong season in League Two.
Posh Identify Versatile Midfield Talent
Peterborough United’s 2025/26 League One campaign began with a narrow defeat to Cardiff City, and although early, concerns about squad depth have prompted further movement in the transfer market. One name now on the radar is Ben Woods, a player who made significant strides at Accrington Stanley last season.
Woods, who joined Stanley from Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 2023, played 41 times in all competitions during 2024/25, registering nine goals and six assists. His consistent displays were instrumental in keeping John Doolan’s side in the division, even as they finished just one place above the relegation zone.
Operating primarily as a central midfielder, Woods has also featured at left-back and left wing-back, making him an appealing option for Ferguson, who is known to favour flexible players within his dynamic system. Accrington are understood to be keen to retain Woods and are expected to resist early approaches from Peterborough. However, with the club’s recruitment model often geared towards development and profit, a sizeable offer may be difficult to turn down.
Woods would face stiff competition for a starting berth at London Road. Central options include Archie Collins, Ryan De Havilland, Donay O’Brien-Brady, and recent signing Brandon Khela. On the left, Rio Adebisi and Harley Mills have both impressed, but Woods’ adaptability could be his greatest asset in carving out a role.
Peterborough have already brought in eight new faces this summer, with FC Thun’s Declan Frith the headline signing. Ferguson is determined to avoid a repeat of last season’s 18th-placed finish, which saw the club finish just five points above the drop zone.
If the move goes ahead, Woods would join a long list of young talents given the chance to shine at Posh before moving onto bigger stages.
