Leyton Orient have completed the signing of exciting young winger Lemar Gordon from Premier League side Fulham, with the 19-year-old penning a two-year deal in East London.
The move marks the latest in a busy summer of transfer activity for Richie Wellens’ squad as Orient continue to build for the 2025/26 League One campaign.
Fulham Prospect Turns Down Premier League Deal
Gordon spent nine years developing at Fulham, who had offered him a new contract this summer. But the teenager opted to begin his senior journey elsewhere, with Orient securing his signature via an undisclosed agreement that avoids the need for a Professional Football Compensation Committee hearing.
The young winger cited his ambition to play regular men’s football and drew inspiration from former Fulham teammate Ollie O’Neill, who made a successful switch to Orient in January 2024.
“I’m really excited to be joining Leyton Orient,” said Gordon. “I have had a great footballing education at Fulham, and I believe that now is the right time to start my next chapter. I’m really determined to make that transition into playing regular men’s football.”
Head Coach Richie Wellens praised Gordon’s decision to reject a Premier League extension in favour of development in League One.
“It is refreshing to see a player turn down a Premier League contract to sign for a club in League One. That instantly tells you a lot about his character. Lemar has good technical skills and he is someone that we will put a lot of work into.”
12th Summer Signing for Ambitious Orient
Gordon becomes Orient’s 12th addition of the summer, following arrivals such as Idris El Mizouni, Demetri Mitchell, Tyreeq Bakinson, and Joe White. The club have moved quickly to reshape the squad ahead of the new season, with Martin Ling’s recruitment strategy once again leaning into potential and long-term development.
The Director of Football revealed the club had been tracking Gordon for some time.
“We have been aware of Lemar for a few years now and I’m really pleased that he has signed. We’re grateful to Fulham for coming to an agreement with us. With the right nurturing, Lemar can become an important young player for us.”
Orient’s strong relationship with Fulham continues to bear fruit. Following the success of O’Neill’s arrival, the club will hope Gordon can make a similar impact.
