Ipswich Town Closing In On Serie A Talent

Napoli have accepted Ipswich Town’s offer to re-sign midfielder Jens Cajuste, leaving the final decision in the hands of the Swedish international.

The Tractor Boys are pushing to secure Cajuste on loan with an obligation to buy if they achieve Premier League promotion.

Promotion Clause Key as Cajuste Mulls Return

According to Il Mattino, Ipswich’s proposal has been greenlit by Napoli, with talks understood to be in a “positive spirit.” The move would see Cajuste return to Portman Road following a successful 2024–25 loan spell in which he made 30 Premier League appearances and scored once, earning the division’s Goal of the Month award for March with a strike against Nottingham Forest.

Kieran McKenna’s side are offering an initial loan with a compulsory purchase clause triggered by promotion, a formula that appears to appeal to all parties. However, the final decision now rests with Cajuste, who has also received offers from Turkish side Besiktas and Saudi Pro League outfit NEOM SC.

The 25-year-old is expected to communicate his decision imminently, with Ipswich hopeful that his familiarity with the club and staff will tip the scales in their favour.

Napoli, who signed Cajuste from Reims in 2023 for a reported €12 million, are open to letting him leave after just one full season. While the Serie A club are still entertaining rival offers, Ipswich are currently viewed as front-runners, with the player’s strong preference reportedly leaning toward a return to English football.

Cajuste’s reputation has grown steadily over the past few seasons, including spells in Denmark, France and Italy. His ability to operate as a dynamic box-to-box midfielder made him a fan favourite during Ipswich’s top-flight campaign, and his return would represent a major coup for the club as they prepare for another Championship promotion push.

Writer’s View

Ipswich’s offer to bring Jens Cajuste back is both pragmatic and ambitious. He was a standout performer last season and has already proven his fit in McKenna’s system. The loan-with-obligation structure protects the club financially while giving them top-tier quality in midfield. If Cajuste opts for familiarity over the riches of NEOM or the prestige of Besiktas, Ipswich will be getting a player who not only improves the squad but strengthens the club’s promotion credentials significantly.
