Norwich City Close To £1.6m Transfer Raid

Norwich City are closing in on the signing of highly-rated Lincoln City forward Jovon Makama.

The 21-year-old is set to be left out of Lincoln’s opening day squad amid reports that a deal with the Championship side is close to completion.

Canaries Set to Land League One Breakout Star

Lincoln City confirmed on Friday that Makama was in talks with a Championship club, and it has since emerged that Norwich are the frontrunners. The Canaries are understood to have agreed terms for the versatile forward, with the deal now in its final stages following a medical in Norfolk.

Makama is expected to join up with Liam Manning’s first-team squad ahead of the new Championship campaign. The former Derby County academy product has been targeted for his physical profile, adaptability across the front line, and homegrown status – all qualities Norwich have prioritised this summer.

Jovon Makama Career

Makama joined Lincoln in 2021 and spent a productive loan spell at Gainsborough Trinity the following season, scoring eight times in 23 matches. He returned to establish himself in the senior squad last term, impressing with his strength, work rate, and ability to stretch defences both centrally and out wide.

After a breakout season in League One with the Imps, where he scored seven goals and registered six assists in 38 appearances, Makama’s stock has risen significantly. His standout month came in March, when he hit five goals and added three assists from the right flank, earning both EFL League One Player of the Month and Young Player of the Month honours.

While the deal has not yet been formally announced, all indications suggest that Norwich have moved quickly to beat rival interest and secure one of League One’s rising stars before the new season begins.

Writer’s View

Jovon Makama’s development over the past 18 months has been impressive. His powerful running, positional flexibility and improved end product made him a valuable part of Lincoln’s attack last season, and it is no surprise to see a Championship club take notice.

For Norwich, this represents a smart, forward-thinking move – a player who can contribute now but still has considerable upside. For Lincoln, it will be a blow to lose one of their brightest young assets, but the sale could offer funds to reinvest as Michael Skubala’s side adjusts for life without him.
