Walsall host Swindon Town in the first Sky Bet League Two matchday at the Bescot Stadium on Saturday.
Our Three Predictions for Walsall vs Swindon Town
- First Prediction: Match to end in a draw – 23/10
- Second Prediction: Both teams to score – 31/50
- Third Prediction: Aaron Pressley to score at any time – 11/5

First Prediction for Walsall vs Swindon Town – Match to end in a draw – 23/10
There should be no doubt surrounding these sides’ chances at promotion this season, but in order to achieve this, both sides will need to start picking up points and wins from the outset. Both sides have had very good pre-seasons, winning four and losing one of their fixtures, including the hosts winning against Premier League opposition, Aston Villa. With it being the first game of the season, there will be a bit of rustiness and unpredictability across the EFL on the first weekends of the season until the teams get into their flow, meaning this game against two strong sides, who have experienced high turnover in terms of players in the transfer window, is likely to end in a draw.
Second Prediction for Walsall vs Swindon Town – Both teams to score – 31/50
One thing these sides have not failed to do across pre-season is find the back of the net. Mat Sadler’s side have scored 13 goals in five games in pre-season against a wide range of opposition, including both non-league sides and teams higher up the pyramid, whilst the away side have bettered that record, scoring 17 goals across their last five games. On top of this, last season, it’s fair to say that either side did not struggle in terms of goals in League Two, play-off finishing Walsall scoring 75 in 46 games whilst their opponents scored 71 in the same number of games. Defensively, although the hosts were better than Swindon last season, they have lost a lot of key defenders, and with it being the start of the season, defensively, both teams might struggle against each other in this matchup, considering the amount of goals that have been scored in pre-season. Therefore, you’d expect both sides to break their season deadlocks in this game.
Third Prediction for Walsall vs Swindon Town – Aaron Pressley to score at any time – 11/5
Although striker Aaron Pressley doesn’t have a great record when it comes to scoring goals throughout his career, a fresh start at Walsall could be exactly what the 23-year-old needed. So far, Pressley has netted three goals across the four games he’s played in pre-season, which will give him confidence going into the season in the fourth tier. On top of this, Pressley finished his loan spell at rival League Two side Barrow last season on good form, scoring three goals in his last three games. The Sadlers reportedly paid a hefty transfer fee to bring him to the Bescot Stadium, and will be hoping he can hit the ground running straight away in tomorrow’s opening day clash.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head
The hosts didn’t have a great end to their 2024/25 campaign, missing out on both automatic promotion and promotion via the play-offs, despite being 15 points clear at Christmas. It was almost the opposite for Swindon, who were struggling before appointing current manager Ian Holloway, who took the struggling side to a tidy 12th-placed finish.
Both sides will be hoping to achieve yet more success this season, so they will be hoping to kick off their 2025/26 campaigns well, to give them early momentum in what could be a tight league this season.
Since 2010, these sides have met each other 23 times, in both League One and League Two. The away side have the majority of results, winning 10 of these clashes, whilst Walsall have won seven. The other six games have ended level, with the most recent matchup ending 1-0 to Swindon thanks to a goal from loanee Joel Cotterill at the Bescot Stadium in March.
