Northampton Town Can Elevate Signing Back To International Level

Northampton Town manager Kevin Nolan believes his side can help push new signing Michael Forbes back into the international reckoning, according to The News Letter.

The defender joins the Cobblers on a season-long loan deal.

Trusted By New Boss

Michael Forbes spent time on loan in League One and Two last season, having short spells with Bristol Rovers and Colchester United. Both stints were disrupted by injury, leaving Forbes still in need of senior action.

The defender managed just 12 games in all competitions at Bristol Rovers, but Kevin Nolan is confident he has signed a player who has plenty of ability and potential.

The Northampton boss worked with Forbes during his time as David Moyes’ assistant at West Ham, and he is pleased to have captured Forbes.

“Michael is a player I have known for a long time. He was a youth team player at West Ham when I was there.”

“I know what he is capable of and the levels he is capable of reaching.”

“He had some really bad luck last season but he is back now and we feel we can provide the platform for Michael to develop and kick on.”

“We are building a really good relationship and hopefully all parties can benefit from Michael’s time with us.”

We said earlier in the week we were looking to strengthen in all areas and Michael’s signing is part of that process.”

Nolan is confident that he and his coaching staff will be able to help Forbes reclaim his place in the Northern Ireland squad. Despite not having played for the West Ham first team, the 21-year-old has earned one cap for his country so far.

“We believe we can help him reach the levels we know he is capable of and that includes playing international football again.”

Highly Rated In East London

Forbes, whose solitary cap came in a 4-0 loss to Finland back in 2023, is highly thought of by the West Ham hierarchy.

After the former Dungannon Swifts youngster signed a new Hammers contract, Sporting Director Mark Noble said:

“We believe Michael has the attributes, dedication, and desire to do just that and are excited to see what comes next for him in East London.”

This is a fantastic opportunity for Forbes to gain valuable first-team experience in a highly competitive league. The West Ham youngster will need to work hard to earn a spot in his preferred centre-back position and may find himself in one of Nolan’s wing-back roles.
