Blackburn Rovers Likely To Lose Key Player In Cut-Price Overseas Transfer

Championship side Blackburn Rovers are set to receive less than £500,000 in compensation for winger Tyrhys Dolan, who is set to join Spanish side Espanyol, according to the Lancashire Telegraph and Luca Bendoni

The 23-year-old is closing in on a move abroad, with many clubs in Spain and Portugal believed to be chasing his signature, with the winger reportedly having a medical at La Liga side Espanyol.

Sky Sports journalist Luca Bendoni has stated that the winger is currently in Spain undergoing a medical, meaning the fee the English side could’ve received is significantly less than what it could be if Dolan had decided to stay in England.

Rovers can claim £90,000 per year of the winger’s new contract as training compensation, so if Dolan were to pen a two-year deal, for example, Blackburn would receive £180,000, meaning that if he were to sign a longer contract, the club would be entitled to more compensation.

Big Blow for Blackburn Rovers Despite Slim Chances

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph only a few days ago, manager Valerien Ismael said:

“No, he’s made it clear, at least his agent, made it clear that he’s going somewhere else.”

The club were made aware that the winger was not going to sign a new deal at Ewood Park from early on in this window, but despite knowing this, it’s still a big blow for Blackburn, who have lost a key player on a cut-price deal.

The winger joined Blackburn in 2020, and has since made over 200 appearances, contributing 48 goals and assists in the process.

Last season, the 23-year-old was both the joint-second top scorer and had the joint-second best numbers in terms of assists, and was one of the main reasons why the club were the Championship dark horses, tipped to struggle by many, but finished just two points out of the play-offs.

Can Blackburn Rovers go one Better

After the disappointment of missing out on play-off football on the final day of the season, Rovers will be hoping they can emulate last season’s success by going one better next season.

After losing former manager John Eustace, experienced manager Ismael had a rocky start to his reign, causing them to drift away from the play-off pack.

Despite the fact that the club have strengthened in this window, they’ve also lost key players, Dolan being one of them, and with the strength of the league next season, there are questions surrounding whether or not Blackburn can replicate and emulate the success they had for the most part last season.

Writer’s View

If Ismael’s side hadn’t made the signings that they have, you’d be seriously worried for next season. However, the club have splashed the cash on four players, two of whom can play both attacking and defensive roles on each flank, who could be considered Dolan’s replacement. It might not be as successful as last season, but it’s fair to say Blackburn look prepared for the season ahead.
