Former Shrewsbury Town Defender Drops Down a Division

Eastleigh have made an eye-catching addition to their back line with the signing of experienced defender Aaron Pierre.

The 32-year-old centre-back arrives following his release from Shrewsbury Town and brings a wealth of EFL and international experience to the Spitfires.

Spitfires Secure Statement Signing to Strengthen Defence

Pierre’s arrival represents a significant coup for manager Kelvin Davis, who fought off interest from clubs higher up the pyramid to land the commanding centre-half. A veteran of over 300 professional appearances, Pierre’s leadership and pedigree are expected to bolster Eastleigh’s promotion ambitions heading into the 2025–26 National League campaign.

Born in Southall, Pierre began his professional career at Brentford, signing a senior deal in 2012. After a productive loan at Wycombe Wanderers, he joined the Chairboys permanently and made over 120 appearances between 2014 and 2017. A move to Northampton Town followed, where he excelled across two seasons and was named Player of the Season for 2017–18.

His standout displays earned him a move to League One side Shrewsbury Town in 2019. Pierre made over 90 appearances during his first spell at Montgomery Waters Meadow, once again collecting a Player of the Season honour. Subsequent spells with Sutton United and AFC Wimbledon preceded a return to Shrewsbury in 2023.

Pierre is also a seasoned international, having earned over 15 caps for Grenada, including appearances in the Concacaf Gold Cup. His mix of physicality, aerial strength and composure on the ball has made him a reliable performer across every level he’s played.

Speaking after finalising the deal, manager Davis said:

“I’m really pleased! It’s a position that we’ve been chasing for a little while in terms of the profile of player to fit what we want to do. He has a track record of being a real competitor and has the attributes to really push us on.”

Pierre added:

“I spoke to the manager for a good few weeks and got really good vibes from him and good communication in terms of what we’re trying to do as a club. I want to make sure I give 110% and make sure we perform as well as we can throughout the season.”

Writer’s View

Eastleigh’s recruitment has been shrewd this summer, but Aaron Pierre could prove to be the standout addition. A proven performer in the EFL and on the international stage, Pierre brings quality and presence to the heart of defence.

His experience could be invaluable in tight games and dressing-room moments alike. If he can stay fit and hit his previous levels, he may well be one of the best centre-backs in the National League this season.
