Burnley are targeting a move for Norwich City striker Josh Sargent as they bolster their squad for Premier League return.
The Clarets face stiff competition for the prolific forward, with interest also emerging from Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg.
Norwich Man Confirms ‘Big Interest’ in Striker Amid Premier League Links
Sargent’s Norwich City future has been cast into doubt after sporting director Ben Knapper admitted “big interest” remains in the United States international.
Sargent, 25, enjoyed a standout season in the Championship, registering 15 goals and five assists in just 32 appearances. His clinical form has reportedly alerted Burnley, who are undergoing a summer rebuild under new ownership following promotion back to the top flight. German side Wolfsburg are also believed to be monitoring the forward’s situation closely.
Speaking to BBC Radio Norfolk, Knapper said:
“We don’t know at this point, there’s big interest in the player. As of now, no, is the answer, but of course there is big interest in the player, I think that is well known. As always with these things it has to work for everyone. Josh is always going to command big interest.”
Sargent, capped 28 times by the USA, has also scored five international goals and remains one of Norwich’s most valuable assets. While no deal is yet imminent, the growing level of attention suggests a transfer battle could be on the horizon.
Knapper acknowledged the club’s ambitions but hinted that keeping players like Sargent could be challenging, especially when elite-level sides are involved.
“There are big clubs in the big five leagues who are expressing a lot of interest in him and he is also ambitious. We’re ambitious as a club and we try to attract ambitious players and then it’s difficult for us to hold that against them. It has to work for us. At the minute nothing has, he’s a Norwich player and I’ll just turn my phone off for the next few weeks and [hope] that will remain so.”
Burnley, already active in the transfer market, have made several additions this summer, including Kyle Walker, Quilindschy Hartman, Loum Tchaouna, Axel Tuanzebe, Max Weiß, and the returning Jacob Bruun Larsen. The club appears intent on strengthening their attacking options further, with or without Sargent.

Writer’s View
Josh Sargent’s goalscoring record and international pedigree make him an appealing target for clubs like Burnley, who need proven attacking quality to survive in the Premier League. Norwich find themselves in a difficult position—wanting to build around their best talent but understanding the realities of player ambition and financial opportunity.
While no move is currently agreed, the door is clearly ajar, and Burnley’s transfer activity suggests they could make a concrete push before the window closes.
