Grimsby Town have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Christy Pym, adding experience and stability to their squad ahead of the 2025/26 League Two campaign.
The 30-year-old joins on a free transfer after departing Mansfield Town, where he played a pivotal role in their promotion-winning season just over a year ago.
More Than 400 Senior Appearances
Pym, who began his senior career at Exeter City, has racked up more than 400 senior appearances, including 94 for Peterborough United and 138 during a three-year spell at Field Mill. His performances for Mansfield were central to their third-place finish in 2023/24, keeping 14 clean sheets as the Stags boasted one of the division’s tightest defences.
Having also earned promotion with Peterborough in 2020/21, Pym now arrives at Blundell Park with a reputation for consistency and leadership from between the posts.
Grimsby boss David Artell was clear in his praise for the new arrival, who becomes the latest addition in what has already been a summer of intent from the Mariners.
“Christy is a vastly experienced goalkeeper. He’s a winner who knows how to get out of this league and we hope he’ll be a real pivotal signing for us,” said Artell. “He’ll be really important and will massively help the backline; doing his job, while instructing others around him.”
Pym’s career began with Exeter, where he made his debut at 19 and became the club’s first-choice keeper before moving to Peterborough in 2019. While with the Posh, he was part of the side that achieved automatic promotion to the Championship and later spent time on loan at Stevenage under former boss Paul Tisdale.
His addition offers a significant boost to a Grimsby squad looking to bounce back into promotion contention after narrowly missing out on the play-offs last season.

Writer’s View
This is exactly the type of signing that reflects Grimsby Town’s upward trajectory under David Artell. Christy Pym’s experience at both ends of the EFL ladder—particularly his promotions with Mansfield and Peterborough—gives the Mariners not just a safe pair of hands, but a commanding voice behind the defence.
His arrival comes hot on the heels of Artell committing to a long-term future at Blundell Park, and further signals a serious push for promotion. With a core of leaders now emerging in the spine of the team, the Grimsby rebuild is shaping up with real purpose. This could prove to be one of the most important deals of the summer in League Two.
