Southampton Reject Bid For In-Demand Winger

Southampton have rebuffed a bid for Samuel Edozie as multiple sides circle for his signature.

The winger has been subject to interest from sides both in the UK and abroad, with Club Brugge leading the chase in order to replace their outgoing Chemsdine Talbi, who looks set for a move to Premier League new boys Sunderland. Edozie spent time in Belgium with Anderlecht last season, finishing fourth in the Pro League alongside a Europa League knockout appearance.

Rangers Make Move

According to Nizaar Kinsella, another club in Scottish giants Rangers have jumped ahead of Brugge in the chase after tabling a bid to Will Still’s side for Edozie. Managed by former Saints boss Russell Martin, the Ibrox side have returned for a player they had targeted 12 months previously as his Southampton future looked uncertain.

The bid for Edozie has been rejected, but it is expected that Rangers will submit an improved offer for the 22-year-old, who arrived at St. Mary’s in 2022 from Manchester City’s academy. He has played a total of 63 times for Southampton, but has never established himself as a first-choice option in Hampshire.

The Saints have seen multiple players leave so far such as fellow winger Kamaldeen Sulemana to Atalanta and could lose other talents like Aaron Ramsdale, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Armel Bella-Kotchap.

Writers’ View

The bidding war looks set to begin for Samuel Edozie and Rangers have made the first move. The Scottish giants have frequently invested in the English markets with Thelo Aasgaard and Joe Rothwell just two of the players arriving in Glasgow this summer. A rejected bid is likely to increase the fee the club receives, but it could suggest that Will Still is open to using the 22-year-old this season, and he could be finally given a shot at regular football at Southampton.
