Blackburn Rovers Target Former Championship Loanee

Blackburn Rovers are reportedly interested in signing Ajax’s Sivert Mannsverk on a permanent deal.

The Norwegian international spent the second half of last season on loan at Cardiff City, playing 15 times as the Welsh side failed to retain their Championship status. He joined The Bluebirds after a lengthy injury layoff and only played twice for the Amsterdam giants in the first half of the previous campaign.

Rovers Want Mannsverk

According to reports from Dutch outlet vi.nl, the Ewood Park side are interested in signing the 23-year-old defensive midfielder, and talks are underway between the two clubs to strike a deal. Sky Sports News reporter Anthony Joseph also stated at the same time that Ajax are open to letting the player leave, to prepare for a major rebuild of their squad.

Mannsverk joined Ajax on a five-year deal in 2023 from Molde for a £5 million fee, where he had emerged as another promising talent in the Eliteserien. He won a league and cup double in 2022 with the side formerly managed by ex-Bluebirds boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Defensive midfield has been a position Valerien Ismael has already invested into this summer with the signing of Sidnei Tavares from Moreirense in Portugal, but with multiple exits already confirmed by the club this summer, they have room to accommodate new signings ahead of next season.

Blackburn Rovers will be somewhat familiar with Sivert Mansverk with his stint at Cardiff City. The Norwegian recorded an assist in the 2-1 win for the Bluebirds at Ewood Park, his only goal contribution in the Championship. With that experience, and still being young, this could be a shrewd signing for Rovers and create a new midfield partnership for next season alongside Sidnei Tavares. These two have added a younger age profile to Valerien Ismael’s options, with many of his first-choice options now in their peak years.
