Colchester United have secured a key piece of their defensive unit with Tom Flanagan signing a new deal following a strong 2024–25 League Two campaign.
The 33-year-old Northern Ireland international was ever-present for the U’s, captaining the side and missing just two league fixtures across the season.
Flanagan Extends Stay After Impressive Campaign Under Cowley
Flanagan arrived at Colchester following spells with Sunderland, Burton Albion and Shrewsbury Town, and his leadership has become a cornerstone of Danny Cowley’s rebuild at the JobServe Community Stadium. Last term, his consistency and composure helped guide the team to a top-half finish, with Colchester ending the season just short of the play-offs.
Reflecting on his decision to re-sign, Flanagan said:
“I went away desperate to come back. Once I’d had my break, I was ready and raring to go. I feel like I can do it again, and I’m already ahead of where I started last season.”
