Norwich City Make Major Progress In Race To Sign 23-Goal Striker

Norwich City are making progress in the race to sign Brondby IF striker Mathias Kvistgaarden, as per Anthony Joseph.

Kvistgaarden Finally Set For Big Move

The 23-year-old was the subject of interest from Scottish giants Celtic in the winter transfer window, but talks broke down after the Bhoys were not prepared to pay the fee in excess of £10 million that Brondby demanded.

At the end of last week, Joseph reported that RC Lens had an £11 million bid accepted for the Dane and that Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt as well as Serie A side Bologna were all monitoring his situation.

It seems as though the Canaries have won the battle. They have reportedly agreed an initial fee of £6.9 million to sign the striker, though the deal will also include a number of add-ons and a sell-on clause.

Kvistgaarden is undergoing his medical in East Anglia today and is set to sign a four-year contract at Carrow Road.

Who Is Mathias Kvistgaarden?

The striker, who can also play on the wing or in attacking midfield, joined the Brondby youth academy when he was 13 years old, meaning he has spent 10 years with The Boys Vestegnen.

He made his senior debut for the Danish giants in July 2020 after a number of their first-team players contracted Covid-19.

It took Kvistgaarden almost two years to score his first senior goal as he was eased into men’s football. It came in March 2022 and he scored four more times in 16 appearances in the Danish Superliga.

The 2022/23 campaign was slightly strange for the Dane. He struggled for form and consistency during the Superliga group stage, finding the net just once in 21 games, but he exploded into life in the Championship Round, scoring six times and providing four assists in nine games as he played almost as many minutes as he did during the regular season.

He built upon this momentum the following season, registering 14 combined goals and assists in 20 appearances in the regular Superliga season.

Kvistgaarden enjoyed by far his most prolific season to date last year. He scored a remarkable 23 goals in 38 games in all competitions whilst also providing six assists as Brondby finished in third place in the Superliga.

This could prove to be an excellent addition from Liam Manning’s side, especially if they can keep ahold of Josh Sargent.

The American attacker likes to drop into deeper positions and help to link up play which he would be able to do alongside a strike partner in Kvistgaarden.

If new Canaries manager Liam Manning could get Borja Sainz playing the way he did in the first six months of last season, it would leave Norwich with one of the most fearsome attacking trios in the Championship.

Kvistgaarden, Sargeant and Sainz would be able to freely rotate between the front three positions and their physical and technical ability would be a massive problem for defenders.
