Norwich City Set For £13 Million Windfall

FC Porto are confident of securing the services of Norwich City‘s Borja Sainz for a fee of £13 million plus addons, according to Portuguese media.

The Canaries are braced for interest in their key stars this summer, with Sainz and teammate Josh Sargent both shining in front of goal last season. Their form came despite the club enduring an underwhelming campaign which ultimately saw them finish 13th without ever threatening to push for a top six finish.

There is an optimism at Carrow Road that a more successful campaign is on the horizon following the appointment of Liam Manning from Championship rivals Bristol City. However, the 39-year-old knows that a rebuild is potentially on the cards.

Sainz really came into his own over the past 12 months. His 18 Championship goals have seen him attract interest from across Europe, with La Liga outfit Athletic Bilbao thought to have been the frontrunners.

Porto Emerge As Favourites For Sainz Signature

Bilbao now appear to be out of the running after they announced that they had tied down star winger Nico Williams down to a staggering 10-year deal yesterday. The 22-year-old had been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, but has now committed his future to his boyhood club.

This has seen Porto take the lead in the race for Sainz, with Record stating the two-time European champions are confident of securing a £13 million deal, plus a percentage of any future transfer. It is claimed that negotiations between the two clubs is ongoing.

This summer represents the final opportunity for Norwich to land a significant fee for the attacker, with his existing deal set to expire in 2026. He signed for the East Anglians in 2023 after he left Turkish side Giresunspor. He has since made 82 appearances for the club in all competitions, contributing 27 goals and six assists.

Writer’s View

This is an excellent deal for Norwich. £13 million for a player with just one year remaining on his existing contract is a good piece of business. Sainz showed that he is a solid player last season but his form fell off in the second half of the campaign. Although it is somewhat of a blow, Liam Manning will feel that he can find an ample replacement with those kinds of funds. Negotiating a sell-on clause is also smart.
