Norwich City will not be pursuing a deal for Lukas Cerv after reports suggested The Canaries could move for the Czech international.
An article from TEAMtalk earlier this morning (July 4th), linked the 24-year-old midfielder with a switch to the Championship side, now under the management of Liam Manning. It was believed that Norwich were in a battle with European sides Trabzonspor, Anderlecht and Gent were all in a battle to sign Cerv with no formal bids tabled yet.
Rumours Denied
According to The Pink ‘Un, these links are not true and the Norfolk side will not pursue a deal for the Viktoria Plzen player, who played 52 times for the club also home to former Derby County man Matej Vydra. They finished second in the Czech 1. Liga, 16 points behind runaway champions Slavia Prague and as a result secured a place in the Champions League Qualifying Stages.
Norwich are still in the market for a central midfielder this window in addition to Jacob Wright, who signed on a permanent transfer from Manchester City after a successful half-season loan. Two new wingers are also desired by the new Canaries boss, but may not become a necessity with Borja Sainz’s chances of staying at Carrow Road being handed a major boost after Athletic Bilbao look set to move on from their interest for the 24-year-old.
Including Wright, Norwich have made six incoming transfers so far, including a complete overhaul of the goalkeeping department with the additions of Daniel Grimshaw, Louie Moulden and Vladan Kovacevic, with the latter being the first choice heading into next season.

With Norwich City looking for a new midfielder, it is understandable why links to players like Lukas Cerv would emerge. His characteristics are there to be seen, with him being a near-ever-present in Viktoria Plzen’s squad and helping them through admirable campaigns in the Europa League and Conference League. At 24, he is far from the final product and his versatility is a great asset to have. However, it seems that Liam Manning’s side want a different kind of player and will not pursue a deal.
