Ipswich Town Face Battle For Former Loanee

Ipswich Town could fail in their attempt to sign a member of last season’s Premier League squad as top-flight sides circle for another talent.

The Tractor Boys put up an admirable but ultimately fruitless effort as they made their long-awaited return to England’s top division under Kieran McKenna. But since their relegation, a few parts of their squad have been poached by other sides, most prominently Liam Delap, who moved to Chelsea last month.

Town May Lose Out On Cajuste

According to Sky Sports News’ Lyall Thomas, Jens Cajuste is being targeted by both Crystal Palace and Burnley in the Premier League, as well as teams abroad in the form of Besiktas in Turkey and La Liga side Sevilla. The Napoli forward, who was sent to Portman Road on loan last season, is also a target for Kieran McKenna.

The Swede made 33 appearances in Suffolk last season in midfield alongside club captain Sam Morsy. He was a regular starter for some stretches of the season, overtaking Manchester City loanee Kalvin Phillips in the pecking order. Winning Serie A with the Italian club two seasons ago, Antonio Conte’s side are looking to move him out of the club this summer after both Billy Gilmour and Scott McTominay have made themselves irreplaceable fixtures for Gil Azzurri.

It was believed that Cajuste had been offered to Udinese in exchange for their main talisman, Lorenzo Lucca, with no agreement between the two clubs reached as of yet.

Writers’ View

Considering the calibre of their opposition and the fact they are now in the Championship, Ipswich Town have a real uphill battle on their hands to resign Jens Cajuste. However, The Tractor Boys might be his perfect location within England at least. Crystal Palace have Adam Wharton, Jefferson Lerma and Cheick Doucoure all on their books in defensive midfield and Burnley have four different players in the same position. With Ipswich, he will have a great shot at gaining promotion and reasserting himself as a reliable Premier League-quality player in Suffolk.
