Burton Albion Could Lose Star Player

Burton Albion are under threat of losing Rumarn Burrell to League One rivals Plymouth Argyle, with the Pilgrims interested in the forward according to a report.

The 24-year-old had a strong start to his Brewers career, with 11 goals to his name in the third tier as his side avoided the drop by one point from Crawley Town. The two-time Bradford City loanee joined Albion on a free transfer from Scottish side Cove Rangers.

Argyle Target New Forward

According to Football League World, Tom Cleverley’s side are targeting a move for Burrell, who still has two years left on his deal at the Pirelli Stadium. Argyle have made just one forward recruitment this summer, signing young forward Owen Oseni from St. Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.

The Devon side are in need of new strikers, with both of last season’s permanent main options, Ryan Hardie and Mustapha Bundu, have both departed. The Argyle number nine left to return to the Championship with Wrexham paying a high six-figure fee for Hardie, whilst Bundu opted to join Hannover 96 following the expiration of his contract.

Plymouth have worked tirelessly in recent days in the transfer market, with Fleetwood Town’s Brendan Wiredu looking likely to join Cleverley’s squad, beating Rotherham United to the deal. Burell emerged at Grimsby Town but was scooped up by Middlesbrough, earning loans to Bradford and Kilmarnock before moving to Scotland permanently in 2022.

With Ryan Hardie, Mustapha Bundu and Mohammed Tijani all leaving this summer, Plymouth Argyle needed to find new forward options to replace the trio. Owen Oseni was a good start, but with him untested in the division and failing to impress since joining St. Mirren. Rumarn Burrell’s signing would give them their first-choice option, with him looking promising in a Burton Albion side that struggled in League One. He is also a full international with Jamaica under Steve McLaren, with four appearances and one goal for the Reggae Boyz. Whilst that may cause issues with the international breaks, nevertheless he will join as a proven EFL option for Tom Cleverley to use.
