Northampton Town manager Kevin Nolan is targeting more arrivals this summer as he continues to reshape his squad ahead of the new season.
The Cobblers have already completed nine signings since the opening of the transfer window earlier this month. It’s fair to say their business has been good thus far, with the likes of Jack Burroughs, Tyrese Fornah, Dean Campbell and Conor McCarthy already through the door.
Nolan replaced Jon Brady in December in what was his first managerial role since leaving Notts County in 2018. Although they flirted with relegation for much of the campaign, they eventually secured a 19th-placed finish to extend their stay in League One to a third season.
Summer Business Not Done
It was always likely to be a busy summer at Sixfields. Nolan oversaw an array of departures at the end of the season, with 11 players released. As such, more reinforcements will be needed.

Via Northampton Chronicle & Echo, the 43-year-old admitted he is thrilled with the business so far, but stated more will be needed for him to achieve his aim next season:
“I’m really pleased with how the summer has gone so far and that’s credit to all of the staff, from Kelvin (Thomas) and the owners to Alex (Latimer), who has worked really hard with myself and Colin (Calderwood).
“It can be quite difficult because players are here, there and everywhere in terms of holidays and having downtime, but the lads who we have managed to get over the line, I’ve been really impressed with them.
“We’ve had Zoom calls and we’ve spoken on the phone and I’ve been impressed with what they’ve had to say. I think they see the vision that we have for Northampton and they want to come in and build on what we did last season.
“I’m really pleased with the business we’ve done but we all know we’re not done. We’ve got a few good weeks to come and I’m looking forward to adding to what has already been a very good summer.”
Writer’s View
Kevin Nolan will be delighted with who the club have managed to bring in for him, but it’s clear that their work isn’t done yet. Those that have arrived should give them some League One quality options but there are still departments they need to replace following their outgoings at the end of last season. Those that have come in are arguably better than those that have departed though, which are encouraging early signs.
