Leicester City Suffer Blow In Managerial Search

Leicester City have suffered a blow in their managerial search after reports emerged that Sean Dyche is not interested in the position.

The long-running saga surrounding Ruud van Nistelrooy’s future finally came to an end earlier today when it was announced that the Dutchman had departed the King Power Stadium by mutual consent. In a statement released on official media platform, the club said:

“Ruud has overseen a challenging period for the club. From his appointment in November 2024, he approached the role with professionalism, integrity and a clear commitment to our aims, including through the integration of several promising players from the club’s academy into our first-team environment.

“Ruud moves on with the respect and thanks of everyone at the football club for his dedication and hard work, and with our very best wishes for the future.”

The move follows the Foxes relegation from the Premier League, where van Nistelrooy oversaw just four wins since taking over in December.

Dyche Out Of The Running

Reports emerged last week that former Burnley and Everton boss Sean Dyche was set to replace the former Manchester United striker. It was claimed that he was the preferred option amongst several members of the Leicester board and the 53-year-old was likely to take the position despite the impending threat of a points deduction and reduced transfer funds.

That appears wide of the mark though. Liverpool Echo state that the two-time Championship promotion winner has no intention of making the move to the East Midlands having been out of work since leaving Goodison Park in January.

This leaves Leicester looking for alternatives, although they are said to be keen on Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl. The German is widely expected to leave Hillsborough in the coming days and has been actively looking for a new job.

It appears as some jumped the gun regarding Dyche’s imminent ‘appointment’ at the King Power Stadium. It’s likely that he doesn’t see himself dropping down to the Championship and may be waiting on a job to open up in the lower reaches of the Premier League early next season. Still, if they can convince Danny Rohl to join their project, that will more than make up for the disappointment.
