Former Carlisle United Winger Seals Champions League Switch

Former Carlisle United winger Tyler Burey has signed for Bosnian champions HSK Zrinjski Mostar in a move that could see him feature in the UEFA Champions League.

The 24-year-old links up with the Wwin League title holders after a short stint at fellow Bosnian side FK Igman Konjic.

From Brunton Park to Bosnia’s Biggest Stage

Burey’s move marks another chapter in a globe-trotting career for the former Millwall and AFC Wimbledon youngster. He becomes the latest English player to take his talents abroad, with the lure of continental competition offering an exciting new challenge.

Zrinjski Mostar confirmed the signing on social media, writing:

“Tyler Burey, a 24-year-old English wing striker, is a new player of HŠK Zrinjski Mostar and joins the ranks of the nine-time champion as a free player after a six-month engagement in Igman.”

Burey spent the second half of last season with Igman Konjic after leaving Carlisle United in January, scoring once in 13 appearances. Prior to that, he had joined the Cumbrian side on a short-term deal in October 2024, making 11 appearances across all competitions—mostly deployed as a right wing-back under Mike Williamson.

Despite showing flashes of promise, Burey’s time at Brunton Park was limited, and he was not offered an extension beyond January. Now, just six months later, he finds himself preparing for Champions League qualifiers, with Zrinjski set to face Virtus AC 1964 of San Marino in the first round.

Tyler Burey Career

A product of the AFC Wimbledon academy, Burey made his professional debut in 2018 before a move to Millwall the following summer. He enjoyed a breakout year during the 2021/22 season, scoring three times on loan at Hartlepool United and being named Millwall’s Young Player of the Season.

His career since has been nomadic, with stints at Danish club Odense Boldklub, a brief loan to Oxford United, and an eventual release from OB in 2024. That departure paved the way for his move to Carlisle, and now, another opportunity on foreign soil.

Burey is eligible to play for England and Jamaica, and has long been admired for his pace, dribbling ability and attacking versatility. Zrinjski will be hoping the winger can replicate his early-career promise on the European stage.

Writer’s View

Tyler Burey’s move to Bosnia might raise eyebrows, but it offers him something most EFL players can only dream of—Champions League football. After an unsettled couple of years, this could be the stability and exposure he needs.

For Carlisle United fans, it’s a reminder of the talent that briefly passed through their ranks. If he delivers in Mostar, it could be a springboard to even bigger opportunities on the continent.
