Bolton Wanderers have completed a loan deal for Chelsea goalkeeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe ahead of the 2025/26 League One season.
The 22-year-old heads to the Toughsheet Community Stadium after a standout year with Doncaster Rovers, where he played a pivotal role in helping Grant McCann’s side win the League Two title. Sharman-Lowe kept 15 clean sheets in 51 appearances as Rovers stormed to promotion, conceding just 54 goals across the campaign.
His move to Bolton represents a step up in competition and will provide Steven Schumacher’s side with a fresh option between the sticks following Nathan Baxter’s departure to Watford. Baxter, himself a former Chelsea keeper, made 72 appearances in two seasons for the Trotters, underlining the club’s continued willingness to tap into Stamford Bridge’s goalkeeping depth.
Previous Loan Experience
Sharman-Lowe has spent time out on loan with Burton Albion, Havant & Waterlooville and Bromley, but his spell at Doncaster was by far the most impactful. The former England Under-21 international showcased maturity beyond his years in South Yorkshire, combining shot-stopping with composure and distribution that fits modern tactical demands.
Speaking last October while on loan at Doncaster, Sharman-Lowe said:
“The lads have welcomed me in really well. I’ve been here for a while now so I feel like I know everyone and know the area. It’s perfect for me. The goalkeeping group is really good too… Kyle (Letheren, goalkeeping coach) has been really good. His sessions are fun and always match-realistic which I like.”
His progress has not gone unnoticed at Chelsea, where new manager Enzo Maresca is assessing the future of his goalkeeping department amid uncertainty surrounding Robert Sánchez and Filip Jørgensen. While Sharman-Lowe is not in contention for the first-team role this summer, his trajectory suggests long-term potential remains.
Bolton, who finished eighth in League One last season, narrowly missed out on a play-off place. With Schumacher now at the helm, the Trotters are looking to mount another promotion push, and Sharman-Lowe’s arrival could provide the defensive stability required to turn narrow draws into vital wins.

Writer’s View
This is a canny signing for Bolton Wanderers. Teddy Sharman-Lowe may be flying under the radar, but his contribution to Doncaster’s title win was immense. His presence adds not just quality but also top-tier pedigree to the Bolton squad.
With a solid defence in front of him and a manager like Steven Schumacher keen to play expansive football, the Chelsea loanee has every chance to thrive—and potentially earn a crack at the Championship or even Chelsea’s first team down the line.
