Blackburn Rovers have confirmed the signing of Belgian winger Dion De Neve from Kortrijk, marking their first acquisition of the summer window.
The 23-year-old has penned a three-year deal at Ewood Park with the option of a fourth, joining for a reported six-figure fee.
De Neve Ready to Hit the Ground Running Under Ismaël
De Neve becomes the first new face through the door at Blackburn this summer as head coach Valérien Ismaël begins reshaping his squad ahead of the 2025/26 Championship season. The former Zulte Waregem man had been on Rovers’ radar for months, with multiple bids reportedly rejected before a deal was finally struck.
De Neve arrives with experience from the Belgian top flight but admits this will be his first foray into football outside his homeland. He made his professional debut in 2021 and signed for Kortrijk the following year, but after their relegation last season, the pacey left-sided player felt the time was right to explore new challenges.
Speaking to RoversTV, De Neve revealed his excitement and relief after a stressful period of waiting:
“I’m thrilled, I look forward to it. From the first moment we had contact, I could already see myself playing for the club. I was very stressed, I couldn’t sleep the whole week. Once I got here, the stress just went away.
“Since I was a child, I always wanted to be a pro player. I signed pro in Belgium, and now I can take a step to England. It’s a dream come true.”
The Belgian also expressed admiration for Blackburn’s rich history, referencing the club’s Premier League title and Alan Shearer’s goal-scoring legacy. More importantly, the move aligns with his energetic playing style—something that fits Ismaël’s tactical demands.
“I’m a winger, a really hard-working winger,” he said. “Even if it’s 60 minutes or 90, I don’t come off until I’m dead. You enjoy more the attacking side, but the defensive is also important, so you have to enjoy it too.”
Ismaël, known for his emphasis on high-intensity pressing and quick transitions, personally presented De Neve with statistical comparisons to illustrate why he would be a good fit. With pre-season testing around the corner and friendlies against local rivals like Accrington Stanley on the horizon, the Belgian is eager to adapt quickly.

Writer’s View
Dion De Neve is a textbook Ismaël signing—quick, industrious, and tactically aware. While the step up from Belgian football to the Championship is considerable, his attitude and energy suggest he’ll embrace the challenge head-on.
With Blackburn eager to bounce back after a mid-table finish last season, this move signals a proactive approach to recruitment. If De Neve adapts quickly, he could become a fan favourite at Ewood Park and a key figure in Rovers’ new-look attack.
