Huddersfield Town are aiming to raid two of their League One rivals with the signing of Lincoln City’s Sean Roughan and Wycombe Wanderers’ Joe Low, according to Football League World.
The Terriers dropped into the third tier a year ago and were immediately installed as one of the favourites for promotion. However, they endured a miserable end to the campaign which saw them drop out of the play-off places to finish 10th.
They parted company with Michael Duff in March in an attempt to salvage their season. This backfired spectacularly though, with interim boss overseeing seven defeats from their last eight to finish 14 points off the top six.
Huddersfield Target Defensive Recruits
New manager Lee Grant has already set his sights on strengthening his squad. He hopes to get his business done early to allow new recruits time to bed in ahead of the new season.
The defensive area of the pitch appears to be a priority and it was reported last week that there was an interest in Wycombe defender Low. The 23-year-old is out of contract at Adams Park at the end of the month, with the Chairboys announcing last month that they were in ongoing discussions over a new deal.
It appears as if they may lose out though, with Huddersfield reportedly closing in on his signing. It is claimed that progress has been made in the past few days with the player, who will depart the Buckinghamshire-based club after a two-year stint.
Similarly, Lincoln full-back Roughan also looks set to move to the John Smith’s Stadium. Although the 21-year-old is also out of contract, he would command a fee having emerged through the Imps’ academy. Having played every minute of last season, it is said that that fee would be six figures.
Writer’s View
Both players would be excellent signings for Huddersfield and would represent shrewd acquisitions. It is critical that they get this transfer window right and the pair would certainly improve Lee Grant’s options. Low is a solid centre-back who has attracted Championship interest in the past. With him now available for free, those admirers are likely to remain, which would make this signing somewhat of a coup.
Roughan has also emerged as one of the hottest young talents in League One and there are hopes amongst Lincoln supporters that he will move further up the ladder if he leaves the LNER Stadium. However, it looks like the Imps may have to contend with a second raid from Huddersfield in as many years after Lasse Sorensen made the move to Yorkshire last summer.
