Leeds United Alerted As Target Told He May Be Sold

Leeds United have been alerted to the possibility of signing Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff as they prepare for a return to the Premier League, as a MOT Leeds News report suggests.

Leeds are looking to strengthen their midfield options.

Longstaff Could Leave The Magpies

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has reportedly suggested that the homegrown academy product can leave St James’ Park this summer and this has put the Yorkshire side on high alert.

MOT Leeds suggests that the Elland Road outfit is chasing Longstaff as they look to add Premier League quality to their squad amid uncertainties around the players they currently have.

Ao Tanaka will be a Premier League debutant after an impressive season in the Championship while the jury remains out on the likes of Brendan Aaronson and Ilia Gruev and their capabilities to make the step up.

Longstaff would add Premier League experience to the centre of the pitch for Leeds, having made over 170 top-flight appearances with his best season coming in 2023-24 when he scored six times in 35 outings.

He has since fallen down the pecking order in the North East, starting just eight matches in the last campaign and is now attracting interest from Leeds and Everton.

Leeds Looking For No Frills!

The report claims Longstaff’s ‘nous and understanding’ of Premier League football could be an ideal addition to Daniel Farke’s squad. The 27-year-old Newcastle-born midfielder would complement the current, more technical players on the books at Elland Road.

Longstaff will not only bring a Premier League pedigree to the club but also add more of a physical presence in the middle of the park as Leeds will look to do more than just survive.

Leeds would have to pay a fee for Longstaff as he remains under contract with Newcastle until the summer of 2026 and is valued at around £16 million according to Transfermarkt.

Writer’s View

As the report suggests, this is a no-frills signing that is unlikely to get the Leeds United fans excited but one that could prove a very astute piece of business for Daniel Farke as he looks to establish the club back in the Premier League.
