David McGoldrick is set to leave Notts County after he rejected their contract offer.
Didzy returned to Meadow Lane in 2023 from Derby County and has been an integral part of The Magpies’ push for promotion to League One this season, but fell short to eventual playoff winners AFC Wimbledon.
Contract Blow Confirmed
The Real EFL exclusively revealed on Thursday that McGoldrick was set to turn down the contract offered to him by County, with finances being the key driver behind his decision. It is believed that he is set for a reunion with ex-Derby boss Paul Warne and fellow teammate Nathaniel Mendez-Laing at MK Dons.
In a brief statement from the board of directors at Notts County, which was released today, they confirmed McGoldrick’s departure. It read:
“While we’re of course disappointed to be losing a player of David’s quality and character, he leaves having given us many fantastic memories over the last two years.
“Unfortunately we have been unable to reach an agreement on this occasion, but everyone at Meadow Lane thanks David wholeheartedly for his charismatic performances, wonderful goals, leadership and dedication.
“It was special to see him realise his dream of returning to Meadow Lane and we wish him all the best in the next chapter of his brilliant career.”
Notts County are currently in search of a new manager following the sacking of Stuart Maynard at the end of the season.

Writers’ View
David McGoldrick is an icon at Notts County so it feels like a big blow to lose him when there was a very realistic chance he would retire at Meadow Lane. He has delivered some amazing moments in his second stint at the club and arguably it was his injury, combined with Alassana Jatta’s suspension, that cost County any chance of getting promoted through the playoffs this season. With the way McGoldrick played, he could easily of been at a League One club next season, so it feels a bit disappointing for him to remain in League Two and heading to Milton Keynes Dons.
