Several clubs are interested in Swansea City midfielder Goncalo Fraco, according to Wales Online.
The 24-year-old moved to Wales from Portuguese outfit Moreirense for an undisclosed fee and signed a four-year contract with the club last summer.
According to reports, several clubs from England, Germany, and his home nation, Portugal, are monitoring Franco.
The Portuguese player started his career
Goncalo Fraco’s Impressive Season
The midfielder made 42 appearances in the middle of the park last season in all competitions for the Swans, racking up four goal contributions in the process.
The first signing of Swansea’s summer window last season, Franco proved to be a mainstay in the Swans’ starting 11, 39 of his 42 appearances coming as starts in the Championship.
In what was a mixed season for Alan Sheehan’s side, the former Portuguese Under-20 international was one of the shining lights, quickly becoming a fan favourite in South-West Wales.
Swansea City In a Strong Position
The 24-year-old signed a four-year deal at the Swansea.com Stadium following his move to the UK, meaning that Swansea are in a very strong position, with Franco still contracted until the summer of 2028.
This means that the decision surrounding the player is in their hands, and according to Wales Online, Swansea are unlikely to be keen on selling the player, as he is seen as a key player in Sheehan’s plans for next season.
However, the club’s financial position could come into play, with an attractive offer potentially being too good to turn down.
Writer’s View
It’s no surprise to see that Franco has interest from elsewhere following a good season in what is both a new league and a new country altogether. As mentioned above, the Swans are in a great position, with three years still left on his contract.
His contract may mean teams have to fork out a good amount for the 24-year-old, and this could help Swansea out in the long run if they decide to sell the player. However, Sheehan will be hoping he stays put, as he looks to be an important cog in his system for next season, in what will be his first season in charge.
