Southampton are reportedly stepping up their interest in Coventry City midfielder Jack Rudoni, as the club begins reshaping its squad following relegation from the Premier League.
The 2024–25 Premier League campaign was particularly challenging for Southampton. After earning promotion via the Championship play-offs in May 2024, the club struggled to find form in the top tier. Under Russell Martin, they managed only five points from the first 16 matches, leading to his dismissal on 15 December 2024. Ivan Jurić was appointed shortly after but secured just one league victory.
The team was relegated with seven games remaining, marking the earliest relegation in Premier League history. Jurić departed by mutual consent the following day, and Simon Rusk served as interim manager for the remainder of the season
Will Still Arrives
In an effort to revitalise the club, Southampton appointed 32-year-old Will Still as the new manager on a three-year contract, announced just before their final match of the season against Arsenal. Still, who previously managed RC Lens to an eighth-place finish in Ligue 1, is known for his dynamic and high-energy football philosophy.
He expressed enthusiasm about the project at Southampton and aims to instill a proactive and pressing style of play. Rudoni, who made 41 league appearances and scored five goals for Coventry in 2024/25, is seen as a versatile and dynamic option for Still. He’s under contract until 2028, meaning any deal would require a substantial offer—but Southampton’s parachute payments give them financial flexibility.
Rudoni only joined the Sky Blues from AFC Wimbledon in 2023 but has since become a mainstay in their midfield. Still sees him as someone who can drive transitions, operate between the lines, and bring added goal threat from deep.
While Coventry are under no pressure to sell—Rudoni is contracted until 2028—they are braced for bids amid growing top-flight and Championship interest.

Writer’s View
Southampton’s interest in Jack Rudoni reflects a smart recruitment strategy at a time of upheaval. While the club is still searching for a new manager, keeping tabs on top Championship talent shows forward planning. With the club potentially losing key midfielders like Carlos Alcaraz and Stuart Armstrong this summer, Rudoni would offer a long-term solution. His adaptability in various midfield roles makes him an ideal fit for Still’s high-energy, pressing system, which he employed with success in Ligu
Rudoni’s profile not only suits a club looking to rebuild with energy and control in midfield—but his experience at this level would give the Saints an edge during the adjustment period back in the EFL. With Leicester and Sheffield United also circling, though, Southampton will need to move quickly to secure their target.
