Leeds United are tracking Porto centre-back Otávio Ataide Alves as they prepare for life back in the Premier League, with the 23-year-old emerging as one of their top defensive targets ahead of the summer window.
The Brazilian defender, who joined Porto from Famalicão in January 2023, is expected to leave the Estádio do Dragão this summer, with his current club open to offers in the region of €10 million. Leeds are joined in the race by Fulham and Crystal Palace, but club sources suggest Elland Road officials have been monitoring Otávio for several months and remain keen to push ahead with discussions.
Otávio is under contract with the Portuguese giants until 2028, and has a release clause of around €42m, but has fallen down the pecking order amid inconsistent form, injuries, and off-field issues. Despite that, his versatility and raw attributes—capable of playing centrally or as a full-back on either side—make him a compelling option for clubs looking to invest in high-upside talent.
Farke Wants Energy and Depth for Premier League Return
With Premier League safety the clear objective in 2025/26, Leeds know defensive reinforcement is essential. Club captain Liam Cooper is out of contract, while questions remain over the long-term future of Charlie Cresswell and Pascal Struijk. Farke has already made clear that physicality, composure in possession, and adaptability will be key traits in any new arrivals—and Otávio appears to tick those boxes.
The 6’1” defender made 27 appearances for Porto this season, scoring twice and showing glimpses of the athleticism and game-reading ability that once made him one of the most talked-about young defenders in Portugal. Though his development has stalled slightly, those close to the player believe a move to England could reignite his career

Writer’s View
Otávio represents exactly the type of player Leeds should be targeting—young, versatile, and with something to prove. His time at Porto has been uneven, but there’s enough talent there for a manager like Daniel Farke to work with.
Crucially, this isn’t just a punt. Leeds need a modern centre-half who can step into midfield, cover wide areas, and offer real recovery pace. Otávio does all of that. And while Lille may offer European football, Leeds can present a clear role in the Premier League, something that can’t be underestimated for a player looking to rebuild his reputation.
If the price remains reasonable, and provided his character checks out during negotiations, this could prove to be a very astute bit of business from Elland Road. The only question now is whether they can move quickly enough to beat the competition.
