Preston North End are closing in on the permanent signing of Leicester City goalkeeper Daniel Iversen, with the deal expected to be finalised this week.
The Dane is out of contract this summer and will return to Deepdale, where he became a fan favourite during a previous loan spell.
Popular Dane Set To Replace Freddie Woodman
The move comes at a crucial time for Preston, with Freddie Woodman departing at the end of his contract after three years as the club’s number one. Iversen, 26, is now set to take on that mantle, bringing both familiarity and quality to the position.
Iversen is well known to the North End faithful, having made 71 appearances and kept 23 clean sheets during an 18-month loan stint across 2021 and 2022. He was named Player of the Year in 2021/22 before returning to parent club Leicester, where opportunities have since been limited. Last season, he failed to make a senior appearance for the Foxes, sitting on the bench 16 times in the Premier League.
With his contract expiring and Preston searching for a top-tier replacement for Woodman, the timing was ideal. The club have agreed terms and Iversen is expected to undergo a medical before heading off on holiday. It will mark a return to regular football for the Danish international, who also impressed during a brief loan with Stoke City in early 2023, keeping seven clean sheets in 19 Championship matches.
Speaking earlier this month, club CEO Peter Ridsdale expressed “total confidence” in securing the club’s top goalkeeper target, and that faith appears to have been well placed.

Daniel Iversen Career
Iversen began his professional career at Leicester City after joining from Esbjerg in 2016. He spent several loan spells gaining experience in the English lower leagues, including standout stints at Oldham Athletic, Rotherham United, and notably Preston North End, where he won the club’s 2021/22 Player of the Year award.
Iversen also played for Stoke City in 2023 before returning to Leicester, though he struggled for game time in the Premier League.
Writer’s View
This is an ideal move for all parties. Daniel Iversen needs to play regularly to fulfil his potential, and Preston North End need a reliable shot-stopper with Championship pedigree. The fact that he’s already a proven performer at Deepdale makes this a low-risk, high-reward signing.
Woodman’s departure left a significant hole, but Iversen’s arrival not only fills it — it arguably improves the position. With continuity, strong relationships in the dressing room, and a clear hunger to prove himself again, this deal could be one of the smartest bits of summer business in the Championship.
