Former Lincoln City Player Made Available For Transfer By Local Rivals

Grimsby Town have announced that goalkeeper Jordan Wright is available for transfer, less than a year after his arrival from Lincoln City.

The 26-year-old joined the Mariners in June 2024 on a two-year deal but now finds himself surplus to requirements at Blundell Park.

Wright’s Career Path

Born in Stoke-on-Trent, Wright began his career at Nottingham Forest, where he spent six years and had multiple loan spells at clubs including Alfreton Town, Kettering Town, Grantham Town, Nuneaton Borough, Alloa Athletic, and Hereford.

In January 2022, he signed permanently for Lincoln City, making his debut in March 2022. Notably, in September 2022, he was nominated for the EFL Cup Player of the Second Round after saving three penalties in a shootout against Barrow. He signed a new two-year deal with Lincoln City in April 2023 before moving to Grimsby Town in June 2024.

Wright made 34 league appearances for Grimsby Town during the 2024–25 season, keeping six clean sheets. However, after a 4–0 home defeat by Swindon Town, he was dropped from the starting lineup.

Grimsby Town’s Retained and Released List

Alongside Wright, defender Matty Carson has also been made available for transfer. The club has released six players: Jake Eastwood, Callum Ainley, Curtis Thompson, Harvey Cribb, Rekeil Pyke, and Donovan Wilson.

Denver Hume has been offered new terms, while several players remain under contract for the 2025–26 season, including Tyrell Warren, Lewis Cass, Cameron McJannet, Jason Daði Svanþórsson, Darragh Burns, Géza Dávid Turi, Harvey Rodgers, Doug Tharme, Evan Khouri, Kieran Green, Charles Vernam, Danny Rose, Cameron Gardner, and George McEachran.

David Artell On Departing Players

Head Coach David Artell expressed gratitude to the departing players, stating:

“I’d like to thank all the players who are leaving the club for their hard work and professionalism during their time with us. Each of them has contributed to the group in their own way, both on and off the pitch.

It’s never easy saying goodbye to good people, and we’re grateful for the commitment they’ve shown. They leave with our respect and appreciation, and we wish them all the very best in the next stage of their careers.”

Writer’s View

Jordan Wright’s availability for transfer suggests a shift in Grimsby Town’s strategy, possibly aiming to revamp their goalkeeping options. Despite a season with notable contributions, the club appears to be seeking changes to strengthen their squad for the upcoming campaign. Wright’s experience and previous performances, including his time at Lincoln City, may attract interest from other clubs seeking a seasoned goalkeeper.

As Grimsby Town prepares for the 2025–26 season, the decisions made in their retained and released list reflect a commitment to restructuring and improving team performance.
