Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Röhl has emerged as a leading candidate for a potential Premier League vacancy, with Crystal Palace reportedly monitoring the highly-rated coach amid uncertainty surrounding Oliver Glasner’s future at Selhurst Park.
According to Sky Sports Germany journalist Philipp Hinze, Röhl is attracting growing interest from clubs both in England and abroad, including Fulham, Leicester City and Southampton. A clause in his contract could allow him to leave Hillsborough for a figure in the low seven-figure range.

Röhl’s rise draws attention across top divisions
The 36-year-old German tactician joined Sheffield Wednesday in October 2023 and has since overseen a dramatic transformation. From relegation favourites to a stable mid-table Championship side, his impact has been widely applauded—especially given the limited budget at his disposal.
Glasner’s possible departure from Crystal Palace has prompted the club to draw up contingency plans, and Röhl is said to be high on their shortlist. Fulham and Leicester are also watching closely, while a return to the Bundesliga remains a possibility.
Röhl’s contract runs until 2027, but a reported release clause of between €1m and €9m means interested clubs could activate his exit if they wish to move quickly.

Ambiguous comments post-Watford
Following Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Watford on the final day of the season, Röhl delivered a heartfelt and somewhat ambiguous message to supporters that has only fuelled speculation about his future.
“To look in these faces, how they celebrate, how they call my name, it’s always special. Big, big respect to them – they are the heartbeat of this club… We don’t know what happens in the next couple of days. I know what I want to do, my picture’s very clear but it’s also part of the position of the club then… I want to work at the highest level, I want to make the next step,” said Röhl.
Despite being non-committal, the coach praised the club, its fans, and chairman Dejphon Chansiri for giving him the opportunity, while making it clear he has ambitions to manage at a higher level.
Writer’s View
Danny Röhl’s work at Sheffield Wednesday has been nothing short of remarkable. His tactical clarity, emotional intelligence, and man-management have made him one of the most talked-about young coaches in English football. While Owls fans will be desperate to keep him, the lure of the Premier League—and the chance to lead a top-flight project—may be too great to resist. With his release clause relatively modest, it’s no surprise that top clubs are circling. The next week could prove decisive.
