Reading FC defender Amadou Mbengue is attracting interest from a number of clubs, including Championship sides, as his future at the Select Car Leasing Stadium remains uncertain.
The 23-year-old, a fan favourite since joining Reading from Metz in 2022, is currently set to become a free agent this summer. With ownership issues continuing to cast a shadow over the club, the Royals have yet to secure his services beyond the end of the season.
Mbengue’s versatility has been a major asset, featuring at full-back, centre-back, and defensive midfield during his debut season under Paul Ince. Having made more than 100 league appearances for the Royals, Mbengue’s steady performances have not gone unnoticed. Mbengue Career So Far
Mbengue began his career in France with Metz, progressing through their youth ranks before making his Ligue 1 debut in October 2021 against Angers. After moving to England, he initially signed a short-term deal with Reading before earning a contract extension following impressive early performances.
His first professional goal came in a 1-0 win over Coventry City in December 2022, further cementing his status among supporters. A two-year deal was signed in July 2023, but unless a fresh agreement is reached, he could be set for a new challenge this summer.
