Swindon Town Starlet Undecided On His Future

After netting his first senior goal, Botan Ameen admitted he does not yet know where his future lies, as reported by The Swindon Advertiser.

The 17-year-old scored Swindon’s fourth goal in their demolition of Grimsby Town on Good Friday.

Ameen Attracting Interest From Above

Swindon’s young striker has already caught the attention of sides in the Championship and the Premier League despite making just 11 League Two appearances.

The Robins had been hoping to tie the Iraq youth international down to a professional contract to give them more power at the bargaining table but those talks have since stalled.

Without a contract, Ameen can be poached by academies of those higher up the footballing pyramid with the need for negotiating a fee.

Ameen Happy To Take His Time Over Next Move

Swindon boss Ian Holloway met with the striker’s parents before the Bradford City match in an attempt to convince them their son’s future would be best served at the County Ground.

After bearing the Mariners, Ameen was asked whether a decision had been made on his immediate future.

“Honestly, not yet.”

“With my agent and everyone who is representing me has had some back and forth with the club talking about the contract.”

With the interest in him and Swindon wanting to secure a deal, the young forward is happy to take his time to weigh up his options.

“We don’t know what the future holds, but it is definitely an exciting time for my future.”

“Whatever decision I am going to make will be the right one, I am never going rush a decision or make a decision if I don’t know whether it will be a good one.”

Despite interest from elsewhere, Ameen is not against staying at Swindon to continue his development and he is grateful for the amount of exposure to first-team action he has had.

“I genuinely don’t know what is going to happen with my future.”

“Obviously, it would be a pleasure to sign on [with Swindon], but there are technicalities here and there.”

“The minutes that I get, you have to work for them, but at the same time, it is important for me to be given these minutes.”

It is vital for my development. I am only 17, so I need to be getting minutes and be tested physically and psychologically in big games like these, where we are trying to push for the playoffs.”

Writer’s View

Swindon must get Ameen signed to a contract so they have some control over any future transfer dealings.

For the player, perhaps staying at Swindon where game time is more available to continue his development would be the best move at this early stage of his career.
