Reading FC manager Noel Hunt has provided a comprehensive update on his squad’s injury situation as the team looks to secure a play-off spot in Sky Bet League One.
Goalkeeper Pereira given green light
Joel Pereira, who suffered a scare during the warm-up before last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Northampton Town, is expected to retain his place in goal. The Portuguese shot-stopper managed to complete the match despite his early knock.
Speaking ahead of a critical Easter weekend schedule, Hunt confirmed both Pereira and midfielder Lewis Wing – who picked up a late knock – should be ready to feature against Lincoln City on Good Friday.
“They have trained and both been okay. We gave Joel an extra couple of days, and he seems to be getting better and better so fingers crossed he’s fine.”
Currently sixth in League One with only four fixtures remaining, Reading know that each point will be vital in the race for promotion. The side has had to manage without several key players in recent months, a situation Hunt is still carefully navigating.

Updates on long-term absentees
Ben Elliott, Michael Craig, Harlee Dean and Jeriel Dorsett have all been absent due to injuries, and their returns are not imminent. However, there is cautious optimism surrounding Elliott and Dorsett, who might make appearances before the end of the campaign.
Craig has resumed light training but remains in non-contact sessions, while Dorsett is back in full contact drills, providing a significant boost to morale within the squad. Hunt stressed the importance of a cautious approach with Elliott to prevent any setbacks during this critical period.
“They’re all going well. Craigy is non-contact, Jeriel is contact over the last couple of days, and he looks happier in himself. It’s hard work for him over the next couple of weeks to get himself back up to speed but we’re hoping to get him back involved come near the end. Ben we will assess as we go along.”
The Easter period will be demanding, with Reading making a swift trip to Mansfield Town on Easter Monday following their clash with Lincoln City.
Writer’s view
Reading’s resilience this season has been impressive, particularly given the injury setbacks. The return of players like Dorsett could be crucial for depth as the pressure mounts in the final run-in. With a hectic schedule ahead, keeping the squad fit and firing might be the difference between a play-off berth and heartbreak.
