Wrexham striker Jack Marriott has stressed the importance of taking it one game at a time as the League One promotion race enters its final stages — with Saturday’s trip to Wigan Athletic now the Reds’ sole focus.
Phil Parkinson’s men tightened their grip on second place with a 3-0 win over Burton Albion, and now hold a three-point advantage over third-placed Wycombe Wanderers, who responded to a defeat at Reading with a narrow win over Huddersfield in midweek.
Eyes on Wigan as promotion chase intensifies
Despite the win and Wrexham’s strong position with five games to go, Marriott — who scored the final goal against Burton — insists nothing has changed in terms of mindset within the camp.
“It does help that it’s in our own hands but we know that we’ve got to stick to our job, which is the next game,” he said. “We’ve got to be in full control when we go to Wigan on Saturday, and be relentless in our duties.”
Marriott added: “The next game has got to be our next focus – it’s the most important, it is at the forefront of our mind and we want to be ready come Saturday.”
Wrexham are chasing a third successive promotion and could make history by leaping straight from the National League to the Championship in just three seasons.

Marriott hails club culture and fan backing
The striker, who has made a big impact off the bench in recent weeks, praised the spirit within the dressing room and the continued backing of the supporters.
“It’s such an incredible club to be a part of and the dressing room is so important to the success,” he said. “Having such good lads within the group really helps with the on-pitch performances.”
Nearly 4,700 Wrexham fans will make the journey to the Brick Community Stadium this weekend, with the game selected for live television coverage and an early 12:30pm kick-off.
“Our fans are superb and they always travel in their numbers. I’d ask them to bring the noise at the weekend!” said Marriott.
Writer’s view
Marriott’s mindset reflects a calm but focused atmosphere at Wrexham. With five games to go, there’s little room for error — but they’re not getting carried away. Every week brings pressure, but Parkinson’s side appear grounded. Saturday at Wigan is more than just another game; it’s another opportunity to turn ambition into history.
