MK Dons Man ‘Won’t Look Too Far Ahead’ Into Future

Despite the ongoing uncertainty surrounding MK Dons’ managerial situation, interim coach Ian Watson remains resolute in focusing on the present and giving his all to his current role.

With the club yet to announce a permanent replacement for Scott Lindsey, Watson has been working closely with interim manager Ben Gladwin to prepare the team, and his main priority remains improving the squad and helping the players.

The Dons have now been without a full-time head coach for over a month since the sacking of Scott Lindsey, with interim manager Ben Gladwin taking charge of the side for the last six matches.

Watson, who was a popular part of Mike Williamson’s coaching staff last season, left with the former Newcastle United defender for Carlisle United in September. However, he returned to MK Dons last month following the departure of Lindsey and has been supporting Gladwin as the team navigates through a crucial period of the season.

“You have to park it because it’s not fair to the players,” Watson said. “I’ve been asked to come and help the players and coaches, and I have to give it everything I can. If I’m thinking about my future, how does it affect me? Then I’m not giving it everything, and that’s not fair. I have to be present, live for every moment, concentrate on training, and work on the things I can affect.”

Watson’s approach highlights his commitment to the team, with his focus on assisting the players and coaches rather than worrying about what may lie ahead for him personally.

The interim duo has begun to implement their ideas and tactical concepts, and Watson has expressed his admiration for Gladwin’s approach. Despite some challenges, Watson has noted that the team is starting to show signs of improvement under the new leadership.

“Ben has been amazing, he has such a high ceiling as a coach, and he will work at the top level, there is no doubt about it,” Watson said. “He’s come in with his own concepts and thoughts, and we’re really aligned in our thoughts of how we want to see the game. We know what we want to see here, but we have to get it on the grass too.”

While the uncertainty surrounding the club’s managerial search continues, Watson’s positive and professional mindset offers hope that MK Dons can continue to progress, regardless of who is ultimately appointed to take the reins on a permanent basis.
