MK Dons appear to be closing in on Scott Lindsey’s replacement following reports that they have interviewed both Luke Williams and Michael Duff for the vacant managerial position.
It’s been a season to forget for the Buckinghamshire-based side. Starting the campaign as one of the favourites to secure promotion to League One, a poor start saw them part company with Mike Williamson in September. Scott Lindsey arrived to much fanfare soon after.
The 52-year-old had already earned his pedigree in League Two, earning promotion with Crawley Town in 2023. It was hoped that he could emulate that success in Milton Keynes but it wasn’t to be, and he too left the club earlier this month.
The Dons have picked up form slightly under the interim guidance of Ben Gladwin, winning two of their last three. However, they do still sit 18th in the table with focus now fully on next season.
MK Dons Interview Big Names
Chief executive Neil Hart confirmed last week that there has been plenty of interest in the position, both domestically and from abroad. He also confirmed that several candidates had been interviewed, with Football League World now confirming that former Swansea City boss Luke Williams and ex-Huddersfield Town head coach Michael Duff are amongst them.
Williams was heavily linked with the West Bromwich Albion position earlier this season but opted to remain in Wales. He found himself cast aside just a month later though and now appears willing to drop back into League Two. The 43-year-old guided Notts County into the fourth tier in 2023 before leaving in January 2024 to take the job at Swansea.
Duff has only been out of a job for a number of weeks after he was axed by League One promotion hopefuls Huddersfield Town earlier this month. His dismissal was seen as harsh in some quarters, with the Terriers still firmly in the race for a play-off finish.
Like Williams, the 47-year-old also had a brief spell in charge of Swansea but also has League Two pedigree, having won the division with Cheltenham Town in 2021.
Writer’s View
Either Luke Williams or Michael Duff would represent a huge appointment for MK Dons and would send a statement to the rest of the division. For either to consider dropping back to League Two after stints in higher divisions must mean that an attractive offer is on the cards, or that the project at Stadium MK is one that should see them gunning for promotion next season.
