The ongoing search for a new MK Dons head coach is having a psychological impact on the players, according to interim boss Ben Gladwin.
Gladwin, who has taken charge since Scott Lindsey’s dismissal nearly three weeks ago, admits that the lack of clarity over the club’s future leadership has left the squad in limbo. With CEO Neil Hart and sporting director Liam Sweeting having already conducted interviews, the team remains uncertain about who will take charge long-term.
Players Feeling the Uncertainty
MK Dons, currently in the thick of a crucial period in their League Two campaign, are struggling to maintain consistency as they await confirmation of their next manager. Gladwin has overseen preparations for his fourth game in charge but acknowledges the challenge of keeping the players fully focused.
“It is difficult at the moment because no-one really knows exactly the situation,” he said. “But that’s normal because of the club’s search for a new manager.
“We’re letting the players know that it is really important for their careers individually and collectively moving forwards to next season for them to give everything. It has been a tough period for them.”
With three matches in seven days – facing Cheltenham Town and Carlisle United away before hosting Fleetwood Town – the Dons have little time to dwell on uncertainties. Despite the ongoing managerial interviews, Gladwin insists that he is maintaining focus on short-term goals.

Gladwin’s Own Future Remains Unclear
While Gladwin has embraced the challenge of leading the team, he admits that stepping into a managerial role has come earlier than expected. However, he feels supported by the club’s hierarchy as he navigates this uncertain period.
“I’ve had open dialogue with Liam (Sweeting), they’ve been great with me. They’re interviewing people at the moment, that process will continue,” he revealed.
With no official word yet on who will take the helm permanently, Gladwin remains committed to preparing the team for upcoming fixtures and ensuring morale stays high.

Managerial uncertainty is never ideal for a football club, especially one in the midst of a demanding fixture schedule. The longer the search drags on, the greater the risk of instability affecting performances on the pitch. While Gladwin’s temporary stewardship has provided some continuity, MK Dons will want a new boss in place soon to start planning for the future and ensuring the squad remains focused as they approach the business end of the season.
