MK Dons have begun interviewing candidates as they look to appoint a new head coach following Scott Lindsey’s departure nearly three weeks ago.
Interviews Underway for New Boss
With Ben Gladwin overseeing matches as interim head coach, the club has been working behind the scenes to secure a permanent replacement. Sporting director Liam Sweeting and chief executive Neil Hart have already spoken with potential candidates, aiming to have a new manager in place before the end of the season.
Hart confirmed the club has received significant interest in the role from both domestic and European candidates.
“We’ve had an unprecedented amount of interest in the role from up and down the country and in Europe, which is really interesting. People from the outside have seen the opportunity we have here.”

Timeline for Appointment
The club is keen to finalise its decision soon, with Hart stressing the importance of finding the right candidate.
“Liam and I are working through the process now, have interviewed a lot of candidates over the last week or so, and that process will continue. We want to leave no stone unturned. We’ve got to get it right. We’ve got to pick the right person to come in and galvanise the squad, deliver winning performances and take us forward.”
When asked about the timeframe, Hart added:
“We hope so. We’re working through the process. I think it’s a nice time to come in now, because you get the back end of the season, pre-season, and the opportunity to go into the new campaign to deliver something we all want to see.”
Who Are the Leading Contenders?
Bookmakers have named former MK Dons assistant manager Luke Williams as the favourite for the job. Williams, who was Russell Martin’s assistant at Stadium MK, later managed Notts County and Swansea City.
Among the names linked with the position is former MK Dons defender Antony Kay, who has publicly expressed his interest in taking over. Additionally, former Dons manager Russell Martin, recently dismissed by Southampton, has been discussed as a possible option, though his previous departure from Stadium MK makes him a divisive figure among supporters.
Another contender is Ian Evatt, the ex-Bolton Wanderers boss, who has ties to CEO Neil Hart. While the club remains tight-lipped about frontrunners, an appointment is expected soon, with Hart emphasising the importance of selecting the right person to lead the team forward.
Writer’s View
MK Dons are at a crucial point in their season, and choosing the right manager could define their future trajectory. While Gladwin has steadied the ship in the short term, a long-term appointment is essential to stabilise the club and build momentum for next season. The level of interest in the role suggests that the Dons remain an attractive prospect, but the club must ensure they get the right fit to avoid another managerial setback.
