Matt Bloomfield says his Luton Town side are “refreshed and ready” for the crucial final stage of the Championship season as they face a make-or-break battle to avoid relegation.
The Hatters return to action on Saturday with a trip to Hull City, sitting four points from safety with just eight games left to preserve their second-tier status.
While their recent goalless draw against Middlesbrough was a source of frustration due to missed chances, Bloomfield believes it highlighted growing belief and progress under his tenure. Luton had gone into the international break with seven points from their previous four matches, and the boss feels his squad are ready to build on that.
“The bit we love”: Bloomfield eyes vital run-in
During the international break, several players were away on national duty, but for those who remained, Bloomfield used the time to sharpen preparations at the Brache and allow for recovery after a demanding schedule.
“We’ve had some good time to work. Coming off the back of what we felt was a decent four-game period before the international window, we’ve been training hard. The boys are in good spirits and we’re looking forward to the last sprint. It’s about refreshing our minds, getting ready for the run-in. This is the bit we love.”
Luton’s schedule offers a mix of tests, with games against play-off contenders West Brom on the final day, as well as critical encounters against relegation rivals Stoke, Derby, and Hull. Bloomfield insists adaptability will be key, with each fixture posing a unique challenge.
The manager, who took over in mid-season, believes his philosophy is beginning to bear fruit. A more cohesive attacking performance against Boro – despite the lack of goals – showed signs that his ideas are clicking into place after two months of coaching on the training ground.
The Hatters will also hope for more end-product from forwards such as Elijah Adebayo and Carlton Morris, both denied by Middlesbrough goalkeeper Mark Travers in the stalemate. Bloomfield remains confident that the goals will come if performances are maintained.
As they gear up for a defining period, Bloomfield says the players are embracing the pressure and the opportunity to fight for their status.

Writer’s view
There’s a quiet resilience developing at Kenilworth Road. While results haven’t always matched performances, Luton are beginning to resemble a side capable of clawing themselves to safety. Bloomfield’s tactical tweaks are visible, and the team’s energy is evident. Survival is far from guaranteed, but there’s enough belief, structure, and quality in this side to make it a very real possibility. The run-in won’t be easy, but the Hatters appear ready for the fight.
