Josh Dacres-Cogley will remain with Bolton Wanderers next season after signing a contract extension that secures his future until June 2026.
The right-back, who turned 29 on Wednesday, has been a key figure for the Whites since joining from Tranmere Rovers in 2023.

Having cemented his place as a consistent performer in the squad, Dacres-Cogley is excited about the club’s direction and eager to continue contributing to their ambitions.
“Life’s good. The family’s good, healthy, well, so yeah, it’s all good,” he said. “I’m delighted to be here. I think the club’s got great aspirations and I like the direction they’re moving in. I want to be a part of that, so that was kind of my decision to sign that extension and try and go with it.”
Dacres-Cogley is closing in on 100 appearances for the club and has thrived under head coach Steven Schumacher, who has utilised him both as a right-back and wing-back. His attacking instincts and defensive reliability have made him a crucial asset for Wanderers.
Schumacher’s Praise for His Defender
Wanderers’ boss Schumacher, who will take charge of his 10th game when Bolton face Stockport County on Saturday, expressed his delight at securing the defender’s future.
“He’s been really impressive since we’ve come in,” said Schumacher. “He’s been someone who has trained really well all the time and has a really good attitude. He’s a player who wants to know things, asks questions, and thinks about the game. His performances have been excellent, and he’s been really positive when he’s played.”
Dacres-Cogley was rested in midweek as Bolton suffered a 2-1 defeat at Bristol Rovers, ending their seven-match unbeaten run. However, they remain sixth in the League One table, with Stockport just ahead of them in fifth.
Career Progression
Dacres-Cogley began his career at Birmingham City, where he spent a decade and made 30 first-team appearances, including 23 in the Championship. During the 2019–20 season, he gained further experience on loan at Crawley Town in League Two. After being released in 2021, he rebuilt his career with two solid seasons at Tranmere Rovers before making the step up to Bolton Wanderers.
