Lincoln City fans had reason to celebrate on Tuesday night as their side secured a resounding 4-1 victory, a much-needed boost amid mounting pressure.
Makama’s Rise to Prominence
One of the standout performers in the win was Jovon Makama, whose development has caught the eye of both supporters and the club’s management. The 21-year-old forward, who has spent time on loan at Gainsborough Trinity and Brackley Town, has been enjoying a breakthrough campaign for Lincoln.
Makama first joined Lincoln City’s professional ranks in May 2021 before spending a season at Gainsborough to gain experience. He later moved to Brackley Town in 2022, where he made an early impression, scoring his first Lincoln goal while on loan in an EFL Trophy clash against Barnsley.
His performances earned him a recall in January 2023, and just a year later, in October 2024, he committed his future to the club with a three-year contract extension, keeping him at the LNER Stadium until the summer of 2027.

Head Coach Backs Makama to Progress
Makama’s recent shift to a wide role has paid dividends, allowing him to showcase his pace and power. Head Coach Michael Skubala was full of praise for the young talent ahead of the team’s upcoming fixture against Birmingham City.
“I think everybody at the club knows what Jovon’s potential is, and I’ve said what Jovon’s potential is,” said Skubala. “His challenge now is exactly what you say—to go out and do it consistently. He’s got pace, power, and he can excite people and get past people.”
So far this season, Makama has contributed four league goals and five assists, with an additional four goals coming in cup competitions. While his attacking threat is evident, Skubala is keen to see greater consistency from the youngster.
“Using him a little bit wider in the wide areas at times has really helped him, and other times he hasn’t looked the part we wanted him to look. That’s partly on him to go and show his consistency in what he can do. I thought again, he was very, very good on Tuesday night and caused some real problems.”
Writer’s View
Makama’s emergence has been one of the bright spots in Lincoln’s campaign, and with clubs higher up the EFL reportedly monitoring his progress, his future looks promising. His ability to operate out wide has added a new dimension to the Imps’ attack, and if he can refine his finishing and consistency, he could soon find himself attracting even greater attention. For now, Lincoln fans will be hoping their rising star continues to deliver on his potential.
