Blackpool Boss Makes Summer Transfer Admission

Blackpool manager Steve Bruce has expressed his interest in securing a permanent deal for Everton loanee Harry Tyrer, following the young goalkeeper’s impressive development this season.

The 23-year-old arrived at Bloomfield Road in August and has since become a key figure for the Seasiders in their League One campaign, making 26 appearances and keeping nine clean sheets, including Tuesday night’s 0-0 draw with Peterborough United.

Bruce Keen to Keep Tyrer

Bruce, who has been monitoring Tyrer’s progress closely, believes the young keeper has significantly improved since his arrival and would welcome discussions over making his move permanent.

“There’s no doubt in my opinion that Harry is a far better goalkeeper today than he was six months ago,” said Bruce. In that respect, we’d like to keep him. He’s not our player, but we’ll have conversations with Harry and Everton to see what the situation is.

“It’s something we have to have a look at, of course. There’s still a long way to go. He’s playing and has gained that experience, and for me, he is far better than he was when I arrived six months ago, simply because he’s playing week in, week out.”

Tyrer’s development has not gone unnoticed, and Blackpool could face competition if they pursue a permanent deal in the summer. However, Bruce appears confident that the shot-stopper’s time at the club has helped shape him into a more accomplished player.

Harry Tyrer Career So Far

Tyrer, born in Crosby, progressed through Everton’s academy after joining as a seven-year-old. He signed his first professional contract in January 2020 and featured in Everton U21’s EFL Trophy campaign. Tyrer played in a pre-season match against Preston North End in 2020 before signing a new deal in 2022. He spent the 2022–23 season on loan at Chester, making 55 appearances, followed by a stint at Chesterfield in 2023–24.

In April 2024, he extended his Everton contract until 2026. Tyrer played 43 times as Chesterfield secured promotion back to the EFL after a six-year absence.

Writer’s View

Harry Tyrer’s journey at Blackpool has been a testament to patience and perseverance. While there were early struggles, he has responded well to setbacks and established himself as a reliable presence in goal. Bruce’s interest in a permanent move suggests that the club sees Tyrer as a long-term solution between the posts. However, Everton’s stance on the matter remains to be seen. If Blackpool can strike a deal, it could prove to be a smart piece of business as Tyrer continues to develop into a solid EFL goalkeeper.
